Without Trace – Bryan Lawson
You may or may not remember, I wrote a piece about a local author, Bryan Lawson, and his new book at the beginning of the year. The book in question is called “A Degree Of Death”. Just to remind you, here is a link to the original “A Degree Of Death” post HERE. It just so happens that Bryan has just released another book. This one is called “Without Trace”.
Although not based in Chester this time, Bryan has informed that his third novel – yet to be named – will be set in Bryan’s roots of our beautiful city, Chester.
Apparently there is plenty of material in and around Chester. So, watch this space for any news of any further Chester based novels. As Bryan has said, maybe he can make the Drake and Hepple mysteries the Chester version of Morse in Oxford. There’s food for thought!!
Anyway, on to Bryan’s latest offering, “Without Trace”. Bryan has provided a snippet or two to let us know what the book is about.
Without Trace
Have a look below to see what to expect when you grab a copy of “Without Trace”……..
“Lord Richard MacCracken, a minister for the arts in the British Government, disappears during the interval of a performance at Covent Garden. He seems to have vanished without trace between the two acts of an opera. The nightmare gets darker when the postman delivers a copy of the Royal Opera House programme. It contains death threats and a set of the victim’s bloody fingerprints.
DCI Drake and his assistant DS Grace Hepple are called in to recover Lord MacCracken safely and discover who is holding him. The kidnappers have covered their tracks with a web of deception that leads Drake around the world. The sinister and dramatic crimes he uncovers could have come straight from the operatic stage”.
A Degree Of Death
The first book in this series, A Degree of Death finds DCI Drake and DS Grace Hepple solving the murder of a member of the Singapore Parliament. He was found shot on the pedestrian suspension bridge in Chester. Chinese history as well as contemporary ambition and intrigue come into play during the investigation. It was published in 2017.
Here are some of the reviews of “A Degree Of Death” found on Amazon….
“For a first crime novel, Lawson has produced an intricate plot leaving the reader working hard to assess the twists and turns as the evidence is gathered. The characters are well formed and another book involving Drake should be eagerly anticipated.
The background of a plate glass university and academic life is well painted given the author’s own background. Highly recommended.”
“The intricacies of the plot keep you absorbed and the conclusion certainly does not disappoint.”
“From an ex-policeman…a good thought provoking thriller.”
“I loved this. An old school British detective story which kept me in its grip to the end, with a cracking plot and subtle humour. Perfect to while away a cold winter afternoon. When’s the next one out?”
Good effort Bryan!!!
Talking of Bryan. What about the man himself? Apart from him being a Cestrian that is.
Bryan Lawson
“Bryan Lawson – For many years Bryan pretended to be an academic but he has finally seen the light and turned to crime.
He is an architect and psychologist and has studied the relationship of people to place and published over 300 books and articles. He was Head of School and Dean of the Faculty of Architectural Studies at Sheffield University. Where Can You Get Without Trace?
You can get your hands on a copy of Without Trace (published by CreateSpace) at Amazon (see the link below). The printed version is £6.99 and the Kindle Edition is £2.99. WITHOUT TRACE is the second of Bryan Lawson’s series of Drake and Hepple mysteries.
Bryan’s Third Novel
As I mentioned above, Bryan is the process of penning his third novel. The setting for this one is back in Chester. Here’s a little teaser about the third novel.
“Only a little has been written so far but already we are visiting the city walls, near the Roman Amphitheatre, the Cathedral Gardens and Christleton.”
No doubt Bryan will be providing us with more snippets in due course. Thanks for the information on “Without Trace”, Bryan.
