Pizza Restaurants In Chester-Remember These?
Shock upon shock, rainy, cold weather on an August Bank Holiday!!! Who’d have thought it. Bang goes our trip to Chester Zoo. We were really looking forward to that as well. Don’t worry young baby rhino….we’ll be there soon enough to see you soon for photos and videos. So, while deciding what to do I thought I’d write another article on the Chester restaurants we have lost. Anyone remember these pizza restaurants in Chester?
NB: Just as I write this, the weather seems to be clearing up a bit. Quick where’s my bicycle clips!! Anyway, before I decide whether the Zoo is a ‘goer’ or not and on the theme of Chester restaurants we have lost, let’s consider the pizza restaurants in Chester that we have lost over the years.
Pizza Restaurants In Chester
Top of the pile I suppose in terms of popularity was Pizza Hut. Yes, you can still visit the Pizza Hut on the Chester Retail Park, but there was something special about the Pizza Hut in Foregate Street. Pizza Hut’s pizzas anyway are renowned for their unique tasting flavours anyway. But there was something special about the one in Foregate Street for me.
It was a big surprise to a large extent when it closed. Not sure exactly when it did close, but it is equally as sad to see that it is still empty.
I enjoyed many a trip to Pizza Hut in Foregate Street. If you remember there was a time when it was open until the small hours of the morning. Always an option after the clubs had closed. A nice little snack (yea, right!!) before heading off home.
It was such a shame when it did close. I would imagine on a day like today when the weather is a bit ‘iffy’ and there was a special buffet deal on, there would be a big demand for a cheeky slice of pizza or ten!! I seem to remember on occasions on days like this there would be queues outside the door.
Winstons
What about other pizza restaurants in Chester? Another one of my favourites was Winston’s. Situated next to the Top Rank Bingo, again Winston’s pizzas seemed to have their own unique flavour. I thought they were really, really spot on pizzas.
And, like Pizza Hut, they also offered a ‘eat as much as you like’ buffet. Winston’s buffets were on a Sunday. I often went there on a Sunday afternoon. Sunday League footie in the morning, home change, then back into town for a few sherbets and a Winston’s pizza onslaught!!
Always amazed me how quiet Winston’s was on a Sunday afternoon as their pizzas were spot on. Still, not to worry, more pizza for me. And didn’t I fill my boots!!!
NB: I’ve just read the last few paragraphs above. It looks like I come across as a right pizza monster doesn’t it? I can only say….I really resent…, er…I mean resemble that remark!! Pizzas and me……we’re the perfect match!!
Again, a big shame when Winston’s closed.
Pizzaland
Pizzaland in Eastgate Street is another pizza restaurant in Chester that has bitten the dust. Located opposite Browns of Chester, this was another hugely popular eating place. Ideally located for the centre of town, it stayed the course for many years.
I must admit I didn’t frequent Pizzaland as much as the other two, but nevertheless I still went there fairly often. Again, the pizzas were spot on. Where Pizzaland was different I seem to recall was that they did more than just pizzas.
Another shame though when it closed.
Have I forgotten any other pizza restaurants in Chester that have closed? I know Pacinos in Brook Street has a “To Let” sign outside now, but I look at this as more of a takeaway, rather than a restaurant. Still though….another pizza place in Chester closing!!! Come on the folks of Chester….what have you got against pizzas??
Maybe there is a call for a “Save Our Chester Pizzas” day to be promoted? T-shirts, marches, rallies, celebrity pizza lovers speaking out followed by a slice or two of double pepperoni topping pizzas as a tribute.
Seriously though, these are the pizza restaurants in Chester I remember and miss. Thanks for the memories to all that served in those welcoming establishments. And thanks for all the times I was charged for a medium while actually tucking into a large. Mega!!!
