Watching The World Go By
Watching the world go by. What can that be all about? As already mentioned in an earlier post a couple of weeks ago, Spring is nearly upon us. Well, fast forward to today and we are now officially into Spring. And, in the last few days, this has been finally recognised by an upturn in the weather. For how long? Not sure. I went to a footie match on Saturday and it was glorious weather. A fact not lost on all of us in the stand we were in. That was until a fella in the row in front deflated the feel good factor with the sombre warning of, “it’s forecast snow around by us next week.” Really, snow!! Hope that’s not the case. Mind you, the fella lived in Uttoxeter, so even if they have it, maybe it won’t reach as far as here. Oh, by the way, hope you fine residents of Uttoxeter aren’t bothered by any snow falls.
So, what are some of the things we can do in the Chester area. In my previous post of “Spring Is Nearly Here” I mentioned the world famous attraction right on our doorstep. I mean of course, Chester Zoo. What a stellar attraction to have in our City.
Watching The World Go By
I’ve already said on umpteen occasions how much I love Chester Zoo. Another much loved location for me and so many others is The Groves, on the banks of the River Dee. A stunning location where you can, amongst other things, spend time watching the world go by. Grab a seat on a bench by the bandstand, treat yourself to a cheeky ice cream from the many ice cream selling vendors, and sit back watching the world go by. So serene, so civilised and such an enjoyable, simple thing to do.
If you are felling a bit energetic, why not take out a rowing boat, or a pedalo. But if that’s a bit too energetic, and you do want to see a bit of scenery and culture, then you can take a boat cruise on one of the excellent boat trips regularly and gently making their way up and down the Dee. You can take a pick from the Chester Boat Company’s popular selection of Lady Diana, Mark Twain or The Jackie that regularly cast off from the jetty opposite Hickory’s. What sort of boat trips do they run? Check out this link HERE for more information. I highly recommend the two hour Iron Bridge cruise. Very scenic and very informative.
Talking Of Hickory’s
Yes, indeed, talking of Hickory’s, you can grab a good bite to eat and have a cheeky snifter by popping into there. Or, any of the other eating and drinking places along the waterfront. The Boathouse pub for instance to name just one other establishment. A well popular, mainstay Chester pub for decades, the Boathouse is well worth a visit.
All in all there are plenty of places to visit. And plenty of things to do. And don’t forget, you also have the attractive and relaxing Grosvenor Park a stone’s throw from The Groves.
So, looking for things to do this Spring and beyond? Try and visit The Groves on a sunny afternoon and enjoy watching the world go by. You can’t beat it.
Let’s not forget what attractions we have right on our own doorstep. You won’t be disappointed. Whatever you do that takes your fancy, then I hope you really enjoy it. Stay safe everyone.
