Visit To Chester Zoo
Having found out all the tickets to the Craft Beer Festival were sold out we decided on a Plan B. A visit to Chester Zoo was the order of the day instead. Thanks by the way to Lesley and my brother-in-law Ken for the offer of a ticket to the Craft Beer festival but we had already made plans for our visit to Chester Zoo. If you have ever read any of my Chester Zoo related posts on this website, you will know we both love a visit to Chester Zoo. It is without doubt one of the best ways to spend a sun-kissed day. Yesterday was no exception.
Visit To Chester Zoo
As always on a sunny day, there were thousands of others who had the same idea as ourselves. It was chocca. On of the good things about a visit to Chester Zoo is that you can have a look at the elephants before you enter. So, if your only interest is the elephants then you can sneak a peek before you get anyway near the turnstiles.
Loads of “oohs and aahs” whenever the baby puts in an appearance.
It was the first time we had been to Chester Zoo for about seven or eight months. It was noticeable that there had been quite a lot of work carried out since our last visit. There seemed to be quite a lot more to see.
Some things never change though. The King of the Jungle being totally relaxed, soaking up the sun and the admiring glances from his adoring public.
Have you ever been close up when this, “not so little pussy cat” lets out a roar? It is one really impressive shout of intent from the big fella. The noise seems to reverberate around you. Even when you are a fair distance away you can ‘feel’ the roar.
Bush Dogs
In terms of ‘cuteness’, these little chaps ticked the ‘cuteness’ box for many observers.
These Bush Dogs seemed well at ease with humans, as their keeper casually wandered around amongst them. Not sure how long they have been at the zoo, but they seemed to be very popular.
Is That The Real Fernando Torres?
One area that has seemed to change is the Fruit Bat Forest. It doesn’t seem as big to me and the entrance has changed a fair bit it would appear. Nevertheless, always worth a trip to see the bats. Particularly when they fly past you at such a close proximity.
I did check, by the way. The gentleman in front is not the real Fernando Torres.
Plenty Of Places To Eat
While wandering around the very impressive ‘Islands’, it was time for a bit of a nibble. And to rest weary feet. It is amazing how much walking you do around Chester Zoo. You can walk for hours and still not see everything.
We decided to have a bite to eat in the Manado Street Kitchen. Plenty of room and a variety of food options. We took our own, so enjoying your own grub is also an option.
The Islands section itself seemed to have changed slightly. There seemed to be more to see and it appeared to seem a bit more ‘lived in’ if that makes sense.
A really popular attraction in Islands, and of my favourites, are the Sumatran Tigers. Really impressive looking animals. And so huge as well. Mind you, although this moggy is a lot bigger than our four, I bet our four could give him a run for his money when it comes to the amount they can eat!!!
Playing To The Crowd
A real star of our visit to Chester Zoo was an Andean Bear who was clearly ‘playing to the crowd’ Here he is performing his routine. Thinking about auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent maybe?
As ever our visit to Chester Zoo was a very enjoyable day out. A Chester Zoo experience is always on the agenda whenever the weather is nice. As we have a Chester Zoo season ticket we will no doubt be making many more visits.
So, watch out for more Chester Zoo visit posts and short videos of performing bears, or videos of any of the other residents of Chester Zoo.
