Train Cancellations
Hopefully the weather will be favourable this Bank Holiday weekend. In so many years it seems that it is almost a guarantee that the weather on the August Bank Holiday weekend is a bit damp to say the least. Often as predictable as the weather sometimes is travel disruption. Whether this is at the airports, on the motorways or on the rail, travel problems on a Bank Holiday also seems to be the ‘norm’. On that note, you need to be aware of train cancellations this weekend. More information below.
Train Cancellations
There will be NO NORTHERN RAIL SERVICES between Chester and Altrincham today, Saturday, with further cancellations on Sunday.
I know writing in capitals denotes shouting, but rest assured I’m not shouting at you. Just thought I’d capitalise it so it stands out for you.
So, if you were thinking of travelling to Altrincham this weekend then Plan B I’m afraid.
More details as follows:
Members of the RMT union will walk out over the bank holiday weekend – the latest strike action in an ongoing row over the future of the train guard role.
The strikes could also take place each Saturday in September unless an agreement is reached.
Planned Network Rail engineering work will bring some disruption to West Coast Main Line services across the weekend and into bank holiday Monday.
Saturday’s Northern services will be operated by replacement buses.
A Northern spokesman said: “There is no Northern rail service between Chester and Altrincham [on Saturday, August 25].
“A limited number of rail replacement buses (three in each direction) will run between Chester and Stockport. The last bus from Stockport is at 3.15pm.”
Full details of Northern’s timetables for the RMT strike on August 25 can be found online here or here.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT has made every effort to get serious and meaningful talks going with Northern but instead of making progress towards a settlement that matches the best practice in the rail industry as negotiated elsewhere the company have opted instead to play and fast and loose making a mockery of the exercise.”
At least if you have to travel there is a bus service. Train cancellations are, without a real pain. Hopefully there aren’t any Merseyrail train cancellations – otherwise I’ll be walking to the match later!!!
Enjoy Your Bank Holiday Weekend
Whether you are going to Altrincham, anywhere else with or without train cancellations, or just staying at home, have a great Bank Holiday.
