The Four Aces
There may be some readers who think the topic of this post to be a card game. But nope, it isn’t a card game. Others, more likely of a certain generation, will have guessed straightaway. Let’s not muck about. Let’s get straight to the bit of telling you who, or what, The Four Aces are.
Following on from recent-ish posts about other Chester’s in the world and in some instances, famous celebrities from these far flung places, The Four Aces are a band from Chester in Pennsylvania in the USA. I must admit, like others I’m sure, I said “Who?” when I first heard of them. But when I saw some of the songs in their playlist, I’d heard some of the songs. Albeit they were favourite songs of my late parents. So, that in itself gives you an idea of the generation as well. But they are famous songs.
Why don’t we take a closer look at The Four Aces then.

If I said to you, “Three Coins in a Fountain” how many would say, “yes, I’ve heard that.” Quite a few I imagine. In case you didn’t know, “Three Coins in a Fountain” was also a classic 1954 American romantic, comedy-drama movie.
To clarify then, The Four Aces are an American male traditional pop quartet popular since the 1950s. Over the last half-century and more, the group has amassed many gold records. Amongst their million-selling songs are classics like “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing“, “Three Coins in the Fountain“, “Stranger in Paradise“, “Tell Me Why“, and ” Sin“
The Four Aces have been described as one of the most successful pre-rock vocal groups. They did extremely well during the early 1950s with a narrow range of pop material but sort of faded away before the end of the decade.
The original group members were – Al Alberts; Dave Mahoney; Lou Silvestri and Rosario “Sod” Vaccaro. Alberts left the group in 1958 to see if he could make it as a solo artist. However, he never made the charts. He was replaced as lead singer by Fred Diodati,
Are they still going after all these years? In 1975, Diodati was awarded the right to the name and continued to tour under it. The founding members, who again wanted to tour, were allowed to use the name, “The Original Four Aces, Featuring Al Alberts.” The latter group retired in 1987. The Four Aces are still touring.
The Four Aces And A Connection With Another Famous Chester Resident
In 1948–49, Bill Haley, who used to live in Chester, Pennsylvania, fronted a group called “The Four Aces of Western Swing” – often referred to as simply The Four Aces. The group played country and western style music, and it was with the group that Haley recorded his first singles for the Cowboy Records label in 1948. The group disbanded in 1949, and Haley then went on to form The Saddlemen, which later became Bill Haley & His Comets.
Small world or what!! And Chester right at the hub of The Four Aces action.
I tell you what, I’m getting right into this “other Chester’s in the world” sort of theme. Fascinating stuff.
Who or what shall I write about next under this category? Again folks, just watch this space!!
