RSPB – Big Garden Birdwatch
Hello again folks. I like to think my website is quite diverse and informative on a variety of local matters. I also encourage visitors to approach me with topics of interest. Preferably these topics need to have a local spin for obvious reasons. It is fair to say however that certain subjects covering a wider net also have a local interest. Case in point, the “RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch”. So, what is this “Big Garden Birdwatch” all about?
One of my visitors approached me and asked if I would include this year’s “Big Garden Birdwatch” as an article on Chester Lifestyle. As I didn’t know anything about the subject I requested that if they were familiar with the event, why didn’t they provide a write-up about it. And sure enough they have.
The article and all the details of how to become involved are below. Also, there are three short videos providing more details of how to get involved and what it entails.
Does it have a local spin to it as well? Well of course it does. What better way to get your children involved in something that requires more than just exercising their thumbs on a mobile phone, an iPad, an Xbox game etc….etc.
Apart from an alternative enjoyment, think about the sense of achievement your young ‘uns will experience. However, as the article below suggests you don’t necessarily need to be a “Spring Chicken” to partake.
So, folks why not get involved. Wrap up warm and get out and about in your gardens and experience the “world’s largest garden wildlife survey”
Enjoy!! Anyway, with no further ado, here are the details…..
RSPB – Big Garden Birdwatch – (26 – 28 January 2019)
“In 1979 when the RSPB coupled up with BBC’s Blue Peter TV programme they asked viewers (mainly children) to check on the variety of birds they came across in their respective gardens, record the data and pass it on to the RSPB.
Not until grandchildren entered my world did I personally become actively involved.
I applied to the RSPB, via telephone I hasten to add as the internet was still in the days of early birth and I requested the free survey packs for myself and the grandchildren.
Oh yes, one no longer has to be a “Spring chicken” to partake in the Big Garden Birdwatch survey. It is open to one and all and the stats gathered provide an extremely valuable database. Remember, Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey and the information is gathered by all involved, from 9 to 90!
You can help by providing the birds visiting YOUR garden with a variety of feeders, food and nesting boxes. Not only will they be grateful for your worthy efforts, but will without doubt repay you in a wonderful way in a world of colourful display.
Likewise, the more you have to offer them, the more frequently they shall return”
