Rare Chicks Hatched At Chester Zoo
Something in the water again at Chester Zoo as we welcome even more new babies into the world. This time it’s two new rare chicks that have made their own grand entrance.
Their hatching was not a straightforward affair either.
Rare Chicks Hatched At Chester Zoo
The new chicks Mum and Dad have had a difficult time of it along the way. Very difficult in fact. They were actually rescued from illegal wildlife traders.
As it happens it is the first time that collared trogon chicks have been bred in any of the top zoos in the world. Another major, major coup for our top, top internationally acclaimed attraction.
It isn’t just Chester Zoo or those of us in Chester giving ourselves a pat on the back. Bird experts from far afield have heralded the arrival of these new babies as something “really special”.
Mum and Dad were two of almost 100 rare, exotic birds that were provided with a safe haven at Chester Zoo. These birds were seized from illegal wildlife traders by customs officials in Holland last year.
Exotic Birds Found In Europe
It is understood that there are hundreds of bird species appearing in Europe. These birds, originally from Africa, Latin America and South East Asia have been taken from their normal homes illegally.
The hatching of these rare chicks is even more remarkable when you consider the traumas their parents went through. They had a traumatic journey to Chester Zoo and were in a poor state of health when they arrived.
Huge kudos to all those involved at Chester Zoo again though. Not only were they nursed back to health but they were healthy enough to raise their own little babies. A fantastic feat.
Welcome to the world and to Chester Zoo for these rare chicks. Look forward to catching you on our next visit.
