Pizza Making At The Over 55s Club
Right then, move over Jamie Oliver. Move over James Martin. In fact, move over all you chef gurus and food aficionados, there’s some new cooking experts in town. And like all good chef gurus, they are flexible in what they can create, but they also specialise in a particular delicacy. And what may this special delicacy be? A trip to the Hoole Community Centre last Wednesday explained all. I had a look at and took part in pizza making at the Over 55s Club. And what a thoroughly enjoying and rewarding experience for all those that took part.
Before I go into more detail of the pizza making event, you may be wondering what the Over 55s Club (or the 55s Club) is? I have written an article about the Hoole Community Centre before – you can see the post HERE – and more specifically mentioned the 55s Club.
But just to briefly summarise, the 55s Club is a gathering of eager attendees on a Wednesday morning between 10am and 12:30pm at, you guessed it, Hoole Community Centre in Westminster Road. And yes, you’ve also no doubt guessed, you need to be 55 or over to attend. But also importantly, you don’t necessarily have to be from Hoole to get involved. A great way to spend two and a half hours and all for a mere £3.50. Oh, I almost forgot, you also get a good lunch to cap the morning off.
I’ve attended a few Wednesday’s and I’ve spoken with members from a variety of locations. And everyone who attends absolutely love their Wednesday mornings. Each week there is something different going on to keep everyone interested and involved. And last Wednesday, as the article title confirms, it was pizza making. Let’s have a closer look at the pizza making funfest.
Pizza Making At The Over 55s Club
The first thing to mention is to give a big hand to the enthusiastic, caring volunteers who make all these events possible. Having witnessed a few Wednesdays now, it is clear that they all love what they do. The enthusiasm and the organisation from these excellent volunteers is really top drawer. But don’t just take my word for it. Why not pop along yourself to see what I mean.
The pizza making event last Wednesday was very well attended. I gather the turnout was a bit more than expected. No need to be concerned though, the extra numbers was well taken care of and everyone who wanted to roll their sleeves up and create a food extravaganza were well sorted.
Pizza Making At The Over 55s Club – So Much Fun
Another point well worth making is that everyone who took part had fun and really enjoyed themselves. Just have a look at the photo above. And have a look at this one below. Smiles all round.
But let’s not forget, we also all wanted to taste what we produced. I mean just look at the concentration on these fellas!! I wonder what their pizzas were like?
The lady volunteer who put everyone through their paces handled the various stages expertly. I would guess that she has presented pizza making classes before. Being a huge pizza (eating, not creating) fan myself, I was intrigued at the whole process. And, although there were a few stages to negotiate, there weren’t that many to make it look difficult. In other words, it was quite a simple exercise. Coming from a non-cooking participant, that speaks volumes.
The Proof Of The Pizza Slice
And the proof of the pudding? Or should that be, the proof of the pizza slice, how was the end product? Well, even though I say so myself, it was OK. Was it up to Pizza Hut standards? Not quite, but for a first attempt it was certainly edible. If I had one cricticism (of my own culinary skills, not the teaching), I didn’t roll my pizza base enough. The base was a bit thick. But not to worry. All that means is that I will attend the next pizza making class if and when they have another.
All in all a very enjoyable and rewarding morning. A very well organised event, so very well marshalled by a band of brilliant volunteers and expert pizza making tuition. And I also got to taste my efforts and not only that, got fed at the end of the morning with a Cottage Pie lunch. What’s not to like!!
Thanks again to the volunteers. Excellent stuff. And thanks to the lady from Hoole who was alongside me and who prompted me when I needed more flour.
If any of you are looking for an eventful and brilliantly organised event to attend on a Wednesday, then you can’t go wrong with a trip to the “Over 55s Club at Hoole Community Centre.”
As Arnie Would Say…..I’ll Be Back
I’ll be back this Wednesday with my 85 year old neighbour pal. Unfortunately he failed a late fitness test last Wednesday so I went on my own as I also wanted to attend so I could write this blog post. But he’s back raring to go for this Wednesday’s visit. He loves his trips and it only goes to show the Club appeals to all ages 55 and over. So, why not pop along yourself. Or why not take a neighbour who may otherwise be struggling to make a trip out. I am sure you will enjoy it. Me and my neighbour certainly do.
