Oyez Oyez Oyez
A bit unusual post heading maybe. But why not announce a quick what’s happening in Chester article in the style of a town crier. We have an excellent Town Crier here in Chester, so why not “Oyez, Oyez, Oyez” as an article heading.
So, here we go, a quick update of what’s happening. Oyez, Oyez, Oyez……
Oyez Oyez Oyez
I know we’ve had some great Town Criers in Chester over the years but being honest, I haven’t seen too many of them in the last few. But there I was walking through town on Wednesday – or should I say paddling!!! Rain!! Rain!! Where’s it all coming from!!! – and I just happened to catch the start of our Town Crier’s lunchtime message.
What Is An Oyez Oyez Oyez Announcement?
Quite simply, it is a unique regular midday announcement in Chester’s city centre. Taking place at The Cross, where Bridge Street meets Eastgate Street and Watergate Street, the proclamation begins at noon (11am on Race Days).
Not every day mind you. They take place on Tuesdays to Saturdays, June to August.
Fair do’s, despite the heavy rain, there was a fair few in attendance. Tourists and locals it seemed. We have so much to be proud of in our city. Having our very own, entertaining, Town Crier is another asset to add to the long list.
But what else is happening? Or happened?
Oyez Oyez Oyez – Chester Races
Another Chester Races meeting this Saturday coming – 15th June. Some of you may have been concerned that the races may be in doubt as a result of the huge downpours we’ve been having. But no, the Liverpool Gin Summer Saturday meeting will be taking place tomorrow.
However, those attending will need to be aware that parts of the Racecourse will be closed as a result of the rain.
The Open Course enclosure and car park will be closed because of the condition of the ground.
There will still be a good turn out no doubt though.
Here’s Some Great News
Never mind Oyez Oyez Oyez – more like Yay!! Yay!! Yay!! And why is that you may be asking? Well, the great news is that baby elephant Indali Hi Way is fully recovered.
In case you didn’t know, young Indali was extremely ill with the deadly EEHV virus. A virus that threatens Asian elephants globally. Not many ever recover from his horrible virus. But Indali has!!!
Indali is not fully out of the woods though as the deadly virus could return. But, as it is, Indali is well and back to normal. She is closely being monitored by a large team of specialists.
Indali’s recovery is both excellent news and a massive achievement by all those involved at Chester Zoo. Huge, huge kudos to those involved in Indali’s recovery. Give yourselves a huge pat on the back.
That reminds me – we must pay a visit to the Zoo soon!!!
Talking Of The Zoo
Yes, talking of the Zoo, it may be worth mentioning the Zoo’s newly renovated – “The Oakfield’s” – first event. On Sunday 23rd June, The Oakfield will be the venue for a wedding showcase.
So, all those thinking of tying the knot in spectacular surroundings, then pop along to The Oakfield.

What Else Warrants An Oyez Oyez Oyez?
A new Aldi has opened on Parkgate Road. As Parkgate Road was closed recently because of the heavy rain, was the opening hampered in any way does anyone know? You can’t beat Aldi though can you. We like the Vicars Cross store, but as the Parkgate Road is just as close, it may be our regular.
We did go today and it is a fair bit bigger than Vicars Cross and Sealand Road.
Well Done Adam Dandy And The Share Shop
Local businessman, Adam Dandy, co-founder of the Share Shop in Northgate Street, is celebrating after Share Shop raised more than £100,000 so that they can buy a house to help vulnerable people to escape from the streets.
This is some achievement. The “Buy-A-Brick” campaign was set up whereby people paid £1 for a symbolic brick which would go towards the purchase of a property in the city.
The house is expected to be a stepping stone for vulnerable homeless people and will get them off the streets. The house will enable three homeless people to helped and put them back on the road to a more normal life.
I don’t know if the house will be fully furnished and/or fully decorated etc. If not, if may be worth contacting the Share Shop to see if they are in need of any contributions. I’ve got a paint brush…..and a drill. When do I start??
Well done Adam and all involved at the Share Shop and, of course, all those that contributed.

Is It A Bird….Is It A Plane?
No, it’s probably flowers, bees and butterflies decorating the skies over our main Chester streets. A summer campaign created by CH1ChesterBID has our streets awash with these colourful decorations.
Part of “Chester in Bloom” these colourful additions to our city centre streets have been installed by the city’s Business Improvement District (BID).
They certainly add a colourful attraction to the city.
Chester FC Community Trust
The footie season may be over (I don’t follow international football that much) but football has made the news. Well, maybe not footie directly as such but Chester FC’s Community Trust has.
Local footballers living with disabilities are to benefit from a £3,000 “Grow The Game” grant. The scheme, funded by the Football Association and delivered by the Football Foundation will provide support to enable the Community Trust to set up two new pan-disability teams for boys and girls U16s.
I’m sure there’s a load more I could have mentioned but the end of me digits are hurting now after pounding the keyboard all day.
So, it has been different to announce some of the latest local news in a style of Oyez Oyez Oyez. I hope you enjoyed the post and you all have a great weekend.

Is A Bit Of Summer Weather On Its Way?
I’m no weather expert – far from it. But I’ve heard whispers that some good weather is heading our way (he said with fingers firmly crossed). Aren’t I clever you may be thinking. Still typing even with my fingers crossed. Cool, or what.
Anyway, in anticipation of some good weather, have a look at these really good summer products below……
