New Baby Chimp Born At Chester Zoo

I don’t know about any of you website visitors, but whenever there is a new baby announcement from Chester Zoo, there is a sort of sense of pride in a way. Pride in the incredible work carried out at our world famous attraction. Over the 3 years lifetime of this website, there has been a fair few new baby additions. As well as recognising the Zoo’s incredible sense of achievement we also have the “oohs and aahs factor” don’t we. This latest addition is no exception. Chester Zoo have recently announced a new baby chimp born at Chester Zoo.

Cue major “oohs and aahs.”

Welcome to the world and welcome to Chester Zoo, to as yet unnamed new baby chimp.

New Baby Chimp Born At Chester Zoo

On Friday 21st August, a new baby chimp from an endangered species has been born at Chester Zoo. This is fantastic news. And yet another huge achievement from all those involved at Chester Zoo.

Resident Western Chimpanzee Mandy, 43, safely gave birth to the newborn overnight on that date, after an eight and a half month pregnancy. As yet, the sex of the cute, adorable baby is not yet know and zookeepers are waiting until then before naming it.

Zookeepers have made it known how proud and excited they are after the birth of the critically endangered Western chimpanzee. They described it as a “hugely significant” move for the species.

A new baby arrival always creates plenty of excitement. Throughout the whole chimpanzee family. Many of the females in the group often want to help to take care of the newcomer while, for some of the youngsters, seeing a mum with a new baby is a brand new experience. And an experience for them to savour. It is fantastic for the other youngsters to watch Mandy closely and for them to learn from such a natural mother.

While congratulating everyone involved at Chester Zoo – zookeepers and vets alike – let’s not forget of course to give mother, Mandy, a huge mention. Congratulations to Mandy.

A visit to the Zoo looks to be imminent very soon.
