Luca’s Gelato In Hoole
Fair do’s, hasn’t the weather been great recently. Some truly amazing warm weather. And with the lovely weather we can make the most of the benefits such weather provides us with. Relaxing walks in the sun. Sitting on a bench in your local park and watching the world go by. Or, having a cheeky glass or two in your back garden. There’s so much more we can do when the weather is good. You can add enjoying a tasty ice cream to that list. For instance, at one of the specialist ice cream shops we have in our midst. Like Luca’s Gelato in Hoole for example.
Luca’s Gelato In Hoole

Whoa, wait a minute, back up a bit. I did say ice cream but as the title suggests, Luca’s Gelato in Hoole isn’t an ice cream shop. They sell gelato and gelato is not ice cream as we really know it. So, what is the difference between ice cream and gelato? Let’s take a look.
Ice cream is generally made with a higher proportion of cream to milk and contains egg yolks. This combination adds to its richness. Gelato however, uses more milk than cream and uses little to no egg yolks. This means that there is less fat content in gelato than in ice cream. Therefore, that relatively simple switch makes a significant impact. Why? While gelato does include some cream into its tasty recipes, it does have less cream. Which in turn means that it makes it a healthier choice.
Enough of the bio teccy stuff. What about some yumminess comments? Well, take it from someone who has visited Luca’s Gelato in Hoole on quite a few occasions, partaking in enjoying one of Luca’s speciality offerings is yumminess overload.
Luca’s Gelato Tasty Flavours
One of the things I like about Luca’s Gelato is the regular changing of flavours. Fair do’s Luca does offer a wide range of flavours. Some of which are completely new to me. Luca did comment to me once that he is regularly up at silly o’clock in the morning and trying out new flavours.
Whenever I visit there I always say something like, “that was amazing, I’ll have that the next time I visit.” But then the next time I go, there are even more new flavours to tempt you. So, I try another different one. Well played Luca, nice little ploy. Keep ’em coming back for more newbie flavours.
And the customers do indeed keep coming back. The photo I took above shows quite a typically sized queue on a warm midweek day afternoon. The queues have been significantly longer. That shows the popularity of the shop. I don’t know what the plans are for the business but if it’s growing popularity is anything to go by, then a bigger shop will soon be required. The end of Faulkner Street perhaps where Jane Smellie opticians used to be maybe? I’m not sure what is in the offing but I’m sure Luca is on the case with new ideas. For now though, as long there are plenty more new flavour ideas on the horizon. I’m sure there will be.
My favourite? Hmm……that would be…..let me think. Oh, what the heck, I’ll pop in soon enough and see what new flavours Luca has on offer.
If you haven’t paid Luca a visit yet, and you like ice cream – sorry, I mean gelato – then pop along. You won’t be disappointed.
