Key and Car Thefts
A quick post to bring something of concern to your attention folks. Over the last two weeks there have been a spate of key and car thefts across Chester and Ellesmere Port. The outcome of these key and car thefts has resulted in the theft of some high performance cars. Cheshire Police Officers are urging everyone to be extra vigilant following the break-ins. How are the break-ins and car thefts related you may wonder.
Key and Car Thefts
What happens is that burglars break into a home with the deliberate intention of stealing car keys. Obviously as a consequence, the car is stolen.
Over the last two weeks alone there have been 10 such burglaries. The offenders were successful on six occasions stealing a variety of cars. Cars such as VW Golfs, BMWs and Audis have been taken.
A Cheshire Police Detective Sergeant working on the case commented, “While this investigation continues, I would like to remind residents to remain vigilante and report any suspicious activity.”
This week the weather is finally expected to improve. It is anticipated that we may even enjoy a bit of a heatwave. This may well mean of course residents leaving doors and windows open.
What Steps Can We Take
You can take a number of simple steps to help avoid this spate of key and car thefts increasing.
Namely:
- Ensure all windows are closed and doors are locked -even if you are actually at home.
- If you have modern windows – use the security measures installed. This will enable you to still let air in but will still be locked.
- Keep all valuables out of the line of sight of any prying eyes.
- Do not place car keys or purses or wallets on window sills or in view of a door or window.
- Also, do not keep large amounts of cash in your home.
- With regard to your vehicle, use security devices like steering locks to ensure your vehicle is as secure as it can be.
If you do see anything suspicious or have any information on the spate of burglaries, then do not hesitate to call Cheshire Police on 101.
Enjoy the expected nice weather over the next few days but remember to remain vigilant. If you are aware of any of your neighbours being away, then be extra vigilant. Also, keep in mind the elderly. Maybe call in on them to make sure they are OK and ask them if they have seen anything suspicious. If they have, report it for them.
Be careful everyone.
