Happy New Year One And All
Well, there it was. Christmas I mean. The long build up and before you know it, almost in the blink of an eye, it’s gone. Vamoose!!! Gone!!! So, swiftly following on from the Christmas festivities is of course the New Year. On that note, may I wish a Happy New Year to one and all.
I know it’s only a well used cliche to many who trip out their well wishes at midnight on 31st December. Wouldn’t it be great if it was more than that though.
In reality though when does the “New Year” tag expire? Would you say the end of say January we were still in “Happy New Year” territory? What about February? Or even March?
How Is It Going By The Way?
After receiving a “Happy New Year” greeting on the 31st December, has anyone ever been asked, “by the way, how is your New Year going?” further on during the year.
Wouldn’t it be quite refreshing to bump into a New Years Eve reveller for the first time later on in the year and to be reminded of their warm wishes all those weeks earlier. Just imagine the conversation…….
“Hi mate, how’s things? You may or may not remember but I wished you a Happy New Year on New Year’s Eve. Just thought I’d check and see how your New Year has been going? Has it been a ‘Happy’ one?”
I’ve never experienced that. Nor have I asked anyone how their ‘New Year’ has developed either. Maybe I will this year. From my own point of view I do intend to stick to some of my own resolutions. Well, they’re more business plans rather than resolutions.
I don’t really bother with the “stop smoking” type resolutions (I don’t smoke anyway), or the “cut down” on this, that and the other. After all, do you really need to be careful of what you eat or drink when you are already a finely tuned, well honed, lean, mean, ‘Baywatch’ specimen of a man…….cough, cough, splutter, splutter!!!!
NB: Just to confirm….if by any obscure chance you do happen to see an Adonis, muscular, hunk of a man wearing a pair of red shorts, carrying a surfboard in Chester at any time this year…..it won’t be me……I don’t have a surfboard…..EDIT: or a pair of red shorts….or an Adonis, muscular, hunky physique either for that matter!!
Setting Targets
No seriously though, I can well understand why people see a New Year as an opportunity to set a variety of targets. It is, after all, a good focal point to start again, so to speak. Or to start something new.
So many businesses are all too well aware of this of course. We’ve already had the first “Lose Weight” leaflet shoved through our door. Was that a lucky hit and miss leaflet campaign or is their market research really that good!!
Whatever your goals and targets are for this year, may 2019 be a year that you can look back on and say, “Yea, it was a good ‘un”
Thinking Of Others
If a may make one general request to all that may be reading this. As well as your own resolutions, or plans, or whatever you want to call them, again spare a thought for others that may have already had a crappy start to the year for whatever reason. Also, be aware of anyone that you think may need a bit of help in making their own New Year a happy one.
On that note – a Happy New Year To One And All!!
