Do You Believe In Ghosts?
A subject that is to many a non-starter, while to others, a cast in stone certainty. Opinions are very much divided. No, no, I’m not talking about the unmentionable “B” word that rhymes with “Exit”. When is it all going to stop!!! There, that’s my last comment on the “B” word. No, in fact, what I’m talking about is ghosts, or ghouls, or spirits, or spooks. What about you? Be honest now, do you believe in ghosts?
Do You Believe In Ghosts – The Spirit Walkers
There’s no doubt that this rather interesting group do. The Spirit Walkers is their name. Who are they? Well, they are Chester’s latest paranormal investigation team. So far they have visited (and been freaked out by) some rather scary places. Pool Parc in Ruthin for instance. Pool Parc is an abandoned mental asylum.
Knowing that would be enough to freak so many people out. Yours truly included. I mean, who would want to visit an abandoned mental asylum?
The crew leader, Beth Hopper and her team would, that’s who. Before it was an asylum, Pool Parc was a prisoner of war camp. Combine those two together and imagine the tales if walls could talk. But there again, maybe they can!!!
Do You Believe In Ghosts – Pool Parc, Ruthin
On their visit , the crew encountered an eerie figure and picked up on their EVP (electronic voice phenomena) equipment sounds that could be described as screams. Beth has been there several times and has heard voices and footsteps. One lady visitor said that she felt a nurse was standing immediately in front of her in the dark.
Also, an ex-patient who thinks he’s a Roman soldier and duly marches up and down the corridors.
The Spirit Walkers – Who Are They?
Beth set up the Spirit Walkers four months ago. They already have a lively Social Media following with 800 members already following their Facebook page. In this group you can watch the live feeds of the ghost hunts and check over footage for evidence of the paranormal. This could be an interesting page to visit.
As well as Beth, the team consists of a medium, Charlotte Webb, technical guru, Tez Proctor, baby of the group Hannah Henshall, photographer Sharon Tunstall and last but not least, Leigh Mac, the landlord of the Saddle Inn. I must pop in for a pint and ask Leigh about the team and the role he carries out.
In addition to Pool Parc in Ruthin, Beth says that they have also already ticked off several sites in the Chester area in their ghost hunting pursuits. Mecca Bingo in Chester, Delamere Forest and the Amphitheatre. Next on the list for a visit is Stanley Palace in Watergate Street.
One of the advantages of being based in Chester is that there are plenty of places with ghost stories attached to them. I can immediately think of two. The Blue Bell restaurant and The Falcon pub. Thinking about it, has The Boot got their own spook?
There will be plenty more no doubt.
Do You Believe In Ghosts? – Or, More To The Point, Do I Believe In Ghosts?
Whether or not you believe in ghosts is, of course, a question only you can answer. Do I believe in ghosts? Let’s just say I have an open mind. The reason I have an open mind is as a result of a couple of spooky encounters I experienced back in the mid-90’s. In another post as a follow up to this one, I’ll elaborate more on my experience.
Will it make you more likely to believe in ghosts? Again, I can’t answer that. I suppose a way to describe the feeling at the time was spine chilling. Was it completely out of the ordinary? Yes, it was. Could it be explained away by something more tangible and less spiritual? Maybe. Or, probably by some sceptics. And definitely by out and out non-believers. Those that believe however will have their own interpretation.
As I say, I have an open mind. Soon enough I will write a separate post on my experiences. In the meantime though I think it may well be interesting to catch up with The Spirit Walkers at some time and look a bit more into it.
Who knows, in times they may well have enough material to have their own TV programme like “Most Haunted”. Well, maybe not exactly like “Most Haunted” as that programme wasn’t really that convincing. Or was it?
Interesting topic and one which will continue to divide opinion.
