COP26 Exhibition At Chester Cathedral
As the saying goes, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are probably aware that there has been an important gathering going on recently. It is the Cop26 conference being held here in the UK. In Glasgow in actual fact. But what is COP26? To give it it’s full name, COP26 is a conference that is called the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties. And this year is the 26th. However, since the full name is something of a mouthful, it is shortened to COP26. There you go, quite simple really. There may be some reading that saying, “whoa, not so fast. I still don’t get it.” In which case, you may well be best to pop along to Chester Cathedral on the 6th November to attend the COP26 Exhibition At Chester Cathedral.
But before you do so, a bit more of a background if you need it. Many thanks again to John from Blacon for mention of this important topic and the valuable information below. Take it away John……
COP26 Exhibition At Chester Cathedral
This is what John sent, as it appears in the local newspaper, the Chester Standard:
As world leaders attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference – also known as COP26 – in Glasgow, there will be an event which Cestrians can attend in the heart of the city.
COP26 will focus on the increasingly prevalent threat that is climate change. And what can and should be done to mitigate its effects. Bringing parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Closer to home, a COP26 Exhibition will be held at Chester Cathedral on Saturday, November 6th, from 10am – 5pm.
The exhibition will look to tackle the question ‘What impact can little old me really make?’ There will over 20 exhibits tackling topics such as energy, transport, waste, climate action, education and much, much more. There will also be free talks from experts in the field of transport, land use and adaptation, waste and carbon capture with panel discussions including MPs about the big sustainability questions facing society in the coming decades.

COP26 In Soapland
As it is such an important topic, even our much loved and much watched national institutions of the great British soap opera are in on the act seemingly. The only one I (sort of) watch is Emmerdale.
Just in case you haven’t seen Monday’s Emmerdale and are waiting to watch it on catch up – **SPOILER ALERT** – turn away now etc etc if you don’t want to know what happened in Monday’s episode yet.
On Monday, one of the younger characters in it made reference to some videos or images that had been uploaded to Social Media by one of their contacts in Chester. She announced this as the local GP, in his soon to be alter ego of “Doctor Digg” was working on his allotment planting vegetables. Apparently there is going to be a crossover between our UK soaps in recognition of and in mentioning COP26.
It was lost on me, but the reference to the video uploaded by someone from Chester and mentioning their names was a cross reference to the Chester based soap, Hollyoaks. The uploads were from one of the characters in the soap apparently. As I say, lost on me because we don’t watch Hollyoaks.
But the point is, this identifies how big the topic is as our soaps have such huge followings. And what better way to spread the word than via a platform with millions of viewers. I’m not sure what other soaps are doing. Mind you, I doubt if I would pick up on it anyway. The good thing is that it all helps.
