Congratulations To Werby
You may remember a few weeks ago I posted an article about St. Werburgh’s and St. Columbia’s Catholic Primary School (Werby) reaching a Wembley final. They reached the final of the Under 11 National Cup. You can read my original post HERE. So, a big congratulations to Werby in achieving their final appearance.
Congratulations To Werby
Well they not only reached the final. They won the trophy. How good is that. Any of us who have ever kicked a ball in anger will take their hat off to this achievement. I played a bit when I was a lad and I managed to play at Chester’s old ground, Sealand Road, in the FA Youth Cup. But Wembley!!! Not even in my wildest dreams.
Imagine not only playing on the same surface as your idols, but to actually receive a trophy where these heroes also stood. I am sure the young boys parents and school teachers will remind them of the significance of their achievements. No doubt they already know themselves anyhow.
That will be some video to look back on in years to come.
How The Cup Was Won
As mentioned in my earlier post, Werby battled their way through to Wembley to face Dartford in the National Final after coming out on top in a tense penalty shoot out against York in the North of England Finals. This again brought back memories for me. It reminds me of when I was studying in Sheffield and our team got to a semi-final. The game ended 0-0 after extra-time. To those old enough to remember, Ian “Chico” Hamilton, from Aston Villa and Sheffield United fame actually reffed the game.
We lost 5-4 on penalties. Guess who missed our penalty? Never mind…..moving on.
Let’s say it again…..Congratulations to Werby.
The team represented Chester FC. So, something for Chester FC to be proud of after a dismal season for the first team. Who knows some of these young starlets may go on to bigger and better things. I would imagine this experience will have at least whetted their appetites. Less thumbs on your mobiles and computer games boys…get your ball out and get on that park!!
If anyone has any other photos or any videos of the final, then drop me a line. Congratulations to Werby. We’re all proud of you.
