Chester Welcomes Ukraine

As everyone knows there is a war raging in Ukraine and has been since 24th February. And, as is always the case with a war, innocent civilians from all aspects of life are the ones to suffer. More often than not with devastating effect. Thankfully though there is also plenty of good in the world. There are good people aplenty in so many towns, cities, villages, you name it. And that includes Chester. In these so very difficult times the people of Chester Welcomes Ukraine. Some have taken refugees into their homes. That is a comfort to know that such people exist in this world.

So many people throughout the world do not fully understand the full reasons and the backgrounds to all the wars that break out around the world. The politics of it all is not for this particular post, nor indeed for this particular website. Mind you, I’m old enough to know and remember the old Edwin Starr classic song called simply, War. As the opening lyrics announced, “War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing.” Was he right or was he wrong? I’ll let you make your own minds up.

I’m also broad minded enough to often look into issues a bit deeper than what you see on the surface. Case in point when it comes to war. Several years ago I happened to watch a video on YouTube entitled, “From JFK To 911 Everything Is A Rich Man’s Trick.” At the time, and as far as I know, this video is only available on YouTube. It is about three hours and forty minutes long and it is heavy. Very heavy. In a nutshell? Basically, the main theme running through the video is that war is all about money. That’s not a comment that should be considered too heavy or controversial. And a comment that won’t be a shock to many. If such topics interest you, then a watch of this video may be worth considering.

Anyway, back on topic and let’s focus on our new found Ukrainian friends and neighbours.

Chester Welcomes Ukraine Group

For your information a Chester Welcomes Ukraine group has been set up. The group meets every Saturday between 1.00-3.00 pm at Wesley Church Centre, St John Street, Chester CH1 1DA. Refreshments are available, as are toys and games for children of all ages.

Let’s hope this group is to be a roaring success. And in addition to that, let’s hope that our new found Ukrainian friends settle very quickly in our beautiful city. I know from my own Polish family background how difficult it was for my parents to settle and acclimatize during and after WWII. There is no way we, in Chester, can ever replace or replicate the lives they have had to forego in Ukraine, but we can at least, make their stay as enjoyable, friendly and settled as we possibly can.

Welcome to Chester people of Ukraine. We hope you settle here very quickly and manage to enjoy your time here, however long that may be.
