Chester Olympian Medal Winners
As another Olympics ends and plans start for the next offerings four years from now in Los Angeles, time to reflect on the successes of two Chester Olympian medal winners. Although one of them relocated to Sheffield, she was born in Chester and as I always say on my Famous People From Chester page and in this Famous People category, my website, my rules!!
Before I continue, I apologise if I have omitted any other Chester related Olympians. I’m not aware of any others apart from the medal winners. You have to take your hat off to any that actually take part as it must be the pinnacle of so many sporting careers. To win a medal is the icing on the cake of course. Especially a gold medal.
In case you didn’t know, our Chester Olympian winners were diver Yasmin Harper and rower Harry Brightmore. A huge message of congratulations to them both. Well done doesn’t quite cover it does it.
A bit more on our successful Chester Olympian medal winners.
Chester Olympian Medal Winners
Firstly, let’s give a mention to Yasmin Harper. Yasmin, born in Chester, relocated to Sheffield as a young girl. Yasmin is a member of the City of Sheffield Diving Club and has been for some years. And there’s another great city to be associated with. As someone who studied there in the 80’s, I have a soft spot for the South Yorkshire city.
Quite rightly, as Yasmin grew up and trained in Sheffield, she is one of “their own” but as I say, my website, my rules. So, as she was born in Chester, Yasmin most definitely qualifies for a place in my “Famous Chester Celebrities” category. I’m sure she won’t mind being included.
As it happens, Yasmin didn’t just win a bronze medal. She won Team GB’s first medal of Paris 2024 in the women’s 3m springboard synchro diving. A very impressive achievement to follow on from her success in winning a silver in the World Championships in 2023. At still only 23 years of age, there’s still plenty of time for Yasmin to add to her medal collection. Well done again Yasmin and congratulations for being included in two great cities Hall of Fame.
Chester Olympian Medal Winner Harry Brightmore
Our other medal winner was Harry Brightmore who brilliantly won gold in the Olympic Rowing Regatta Men’s eight. Harry is very proud of his Chester roots. So much so he named his dog Chester after his hometown.
Like Yasmin, Harry has also achieved success before the Paris 2024 Olympics. Harry in fact, has coxed the men’s eight to back to back World Championships in 2022 and 2023. Looking ahead and looking to put even more into the sport he loves, Harry was appointed Assistant Coach for Oxford University Boat Club’s men’s and women programmes for the 2025 season.
A huge message of congratulations to you as well Harry. And a big welcome to the heady heights (OK, OK, I know I’m over egging it now) of a place in my Chester Lifestyle “Famous Chester Celebrities” category. A category created as an over spill from my Famous People From Chester page. So many famous people and celebrities to be proud of.
