Chester Emergency Shelter
As Christmas approaches so many of us get carried away in the festivities of it all and enjoy ourselves. In some cases, a bit too much!! Of course there is no problem with that. But what we should all bear in mind also is the homeless. To this end you need to be aware of the Chester Emergency Shelter.
It is often so much easier to ignore the suffering homeless sat huddled in our shop and office doorways. Not only that, there are many who dismiss the very existence of the homeless out of hand completely. Often you see passers-by do so in an aggressive way. Each to their own and all that.
But that explains the behaviour of the aggressors. But what about those that are indifferent or even blase to the plight of the homeless? If they at least recognised the need to help in some way whatsoever, then that is at least a step in the right direction. Even if the help offered is just to make a homeless person aware of the Chester Emergency Shelter, then that is something. Why just stop there? Why not offer them a lift? That includes you as well taxi drivers.
But where should they go?
Chester Emergency Shelter
Chester Emergency Shelter can be found alongside the canal in Boughton. In the photo it is the building with the canopy sticking out. If you see the car at the end of the road on the right, then just after that (if in a car) you would have to turn right. This would take you past The Spital pub and after the next right turn, onto the Boughton dual carriageway, the A51.
So, coming out of Chester from say Foregate Street (in pub speak, the road with Wetherspoons, The Queen’s Head and Number 15 on it), you head towards the Bars roundabout and stick in the lanes for the A51.
In More Detail
In more detail, at the top of Foregate Street you will see a set of lights. Go in the middle lane and go through the next set of lights (you’re now veering right). When you go through those lights you will see a left turn to City Road. Ignore that. You need to follow the road round right, through a 3rd set of lights and follow the road left onto the A51 Boughton dual carriageway.
Landmarks? After about 150-200 yards you will see The Cross Foxes pub (do you notice a bit of theme with the landmarks?) on the left. Another 200 yards or so, another set of lights. Go straight through them for about another 300 yards to another set of lights. Boughton Medical Centre is immediately on the left by these lights (funny name for a pub!!).
Go straight through these lights and after about 50 yards you will see the Little Oak pub on the left (good name for a pub and a good pub as well!!). After about 400-500 yards take a left after Brewers, the decorators shop just after The Bike Factory. Follow the road round to the left and you will pass The Spital pub. Go to the end of that road and the canal will be facing you. You have to turn left at that point. Chester Emergency Shelter (Richmond Court) is on the left after about 75-100 yards.
From City Road
If travelling from City Road, turn left at the lights at the end of City Road and follow on to the A51 Boughton dual carriageway.

Not Only Christmas This Time Of Year
Yes, it is nearly Christmas and all the trimmings and trappings that go with that. But it also a very, very cold time of year as well. Please let us remember that when we are tucked up at home snug and warm. Please think about the homeless. At least they may have some respite at the Chester Emergency Shelter for a short spell. Let them feel the warmth in more ways than one this time of year.
