Chester At Christmas
We’re nearly at that time of the year again aren’t we folks. Of course, you know I’m talking about Christmas and not a local Chester website owner’s birthday. Yes, Christmas is indeed a magical time. And isn’t Chester at Christmas a special event. We all know it is a beautiful city anyway, but Chester at Christmas is a fabulous spectacle don’t you think?
The Christmas festivities seem to last even longer year after year. And why not. The commencement of the Christmas period centres around the Christmas lights switch on. This year’s switch on is happening next Friday – the 16th November.
Chester At Christmas
Just to re-iterate, the lights are being switched on next Friday. Normally the switch on is on the Thursday always in the same week each year. But this year it has been moved to the Friday. A wise decision methinks. Not only because it heralds the start of the weekend but isn’t it a good idea to have the thousands of revellers in and around the Town Hall on a Friday when Chester market is open until 8pm.
I think it’s fair to say Chester market has seen a bit of an upturn in fortunes in recent months. It’s great that this may well be further enhanced with the switch on happening on their late night opening. Get well stocked up with that top quality cheese Kevin!!
Lights Switch On
This year’s Christmas parade theme is “The Twelve Days Of Christmas” and is being organised by Chester’s Business Improvement District, CH1 Chester Bid, in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council. As before, the event is being created with a family audience in mind. Starting at the Town Hall, chELFie, ELFie and their elf muckers will lead the parade. They will be followed by an assortment of local community groups and performing artists. The aim of the parade is to entertain the throngs with the specially prepared “Twelve Days Of Christmas” entertainment.
I’ve not checked the weather forecast so I don’t know if snow has been forecast. If it hasn’t, not to worry. A snow machine will be scattering snow (no, not real snow) from Santa’s sleigh during the parade.
Fun For The Children
Children will no doubt be excited at the prospect of meeting the much loved Chester elves (ChELFie and ELFie….NB: who came up with those names!!!). These popular elves will be handing holographic Christmas glasses to the children. These free glasses will add to the ambience and the atmosphere of the occasion by helping to bring to life the light displays.
With no trickery whatsoever, purely by magic, the free glasses will transform Christmas LED lights into snowmen, stars, trees, gift boxes and….wait for it….Santa himself!!
Santa is really going to be busy as he be appearing on rooftops at five different locations during the parade. Our special, multi talented elves will also be helping the young children spot where Santa is.
The musical entertainment will be provided by a local, live brass band.
Without a doubt the switch on is always a special occasion and makes Chester at Christmas that bit more magical. So, finish work early if you can Mums and Dads and bring your children along to the spectacular commencement of the Christmas festivities. They will love it.
Take note as well, next Friday sees the return of the Chester Christmas Market stalls.
