Armed Forces Day 2023
Here’s something not only worth a read but it may also be worth getting involved in or supporting in some way. Armed Forces Day will soon be upon us. It is on Saturday 24th June in fact. The Armed Forces Day celebrations actually begin on Monday 19 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.
Reserves Day, which is on 21 June, will also provide an opportunity for the country to recognise our Reserve Forces. Carry on reading to find out more. And to see details of a locally held event in celebration.
Armed Forces Day – 24th June 2023
Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for you to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. In this particular instance, Armed Forces meaning from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and also cadets. There are various ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and to also get involved. For more details on how to get involved, check this link out HERE.
Armed Forces In More Detail
Who are our Armed Forces? And what role do they play?
The Armed Forces
The UK Armed Forces defend the UK and its interests. They are not only active here in the UK. They are also busy working around the world. They promote peace, deliver aid, tackle drug smugglers, provide security and fight terrorism. A very important range of services and support I’m sure you will agree.
Veterans
A veteran is anyone who has served in the HM Armed Forces at any time (including National Servicemen, Regulars and Reserves). Armed Forces Day makes sure those that served in days gone by are not forgotten. The celebrations also recognises their continued role within the military community.
If you would like to find out more about how you can support our Veterans, then check this out Veterans-UK website. Or, you can call Veterans UK on 0808 1914 218.
Reservists
Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces They find a way to balance their civilian life with a military career to ensure that, if needed and if their country require them, they would be ready to serve.
An annual Reserves Day celebrates their valuable contribution to the Armed Forces. Reserves Day is the Wednesday before Armed Forces Day. This year, that means on 21st June.
Cadets
The Cadet Forces (Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets and the Combined Cadet Force) currently offer support to over 130,000 young people in more than 3,000 locations all across the UK. Cadets learn life and career building skills as well as gaining vocational qualifications.
Families
As is the case in so many situations in our lives, our Armed Forces couldn’t do their job without the incredible support of their family and friends. So, also take a bow families and friends.
University of Chester Flag Raising Event
I mentioned a worthy event earlier on in the article. Carry on reading to find out more. The University of Chester is holding a flag raising event on 20 June at 11am at the flagpole outside the Binks building on the main campus. This is an open invitation, and the University welcome everyone to join with the them in coming together to show continued support for the people who make up the Armed Forces Community.
Showing support does provide much-needed morale boosts for all involved. This includes currently serving troops, Service families, veterans and cadets. No doubt there will be members of these groups amongst staff and students at the University.
A worthy event indeed.
Just to clarify, Binks Building is on the main campus, Exton Park, just off Parkgate Road. Why not pop along and show your support.
