Dog Theft Markings Message

I posted a warning to cat owners yesterday that will hopefully help spread the word. Today, I am helping to spread the word about a potential threat to your canine family members. The specific threat is relating to dog theft markings. Dog owners everywhere will know that dog thefts are very much a real threat. And, they will also know that they need to be on the ball and aware of any scams knocking about. This one was brought to my attention recently. Have a read and spread the word if you can.

Dog Theft Markings

Here’s the message provided. It’s quite a simple scam in a way, so hopefully the warning will be clear enough and the way to avoid falling foul of this scam is equally simple.

“To anyone local to Chester, these marks appeared outside a house in Lache, Saturday night/Sunday morning. A woman was approached at her front gate, by a tall, dark haired skinny man with an Irish accent (driver in low loader van was stocky, scruffy with dark blonde hair and a high viz jacket, both late 30s-early 40s).

Comments were made about if she was selling her vans and once she said no he commented on her 3 dogs. The next morning these 3 white chalk marks had appeared outside her house. Saturday night myself and a friend saw the same people (not knowing about this other incident until tonight) driving extremely slowly past my house. The driver was hanging out of the window looking in all the drives etc. Something just unnerved us both at the time. The woman whose house has been marked has reported this to the police and has asked me to warn the dog community as she isn’t on fb. Please be cautious folks. 🐾. I have reported this information to the police and have a photo of the markings.”

Dog Theft Markings – Be Aware

As you can see, the markings are quite basic and seem to be easy to spot. Obviously check outside your own house for such markings if you are a dog owner. And maybe, the next time you are out taking your dog out for a walk (or any other times after that really), keep an eye out. Also, if you can, take note of other driveways or kerbside markings if you see any and warn the householder.
