Werby Are On Their Way To Wembley
Although there may well be many Chester FC fans still down in the dumps after their club’s recent relegation, it isn’t necessarily all doom and gloom. Let’s take our hats off to Werby and offer them our congratulations. Who are Werby and what have they done you may ask? Well, Werby are on their way to Wembley. How good is that. Well done lads. Great stuff.
Werby Are On Their Way To Wembley
Local football team Werby, or to refer to them by their full name, St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, Hoole are off to the centre of football, Wembley, on 12th May. As I say, it’s not all doom and gloom for Chester FC. Werby are representing Chester FC in the final of the U11 National Cup. The tournament is run by the National League Trust and the final is to be played a few hours before the Vanarama Conference National Play Off Final.
It has been often said that it is every keen footballer’s dream to play in a Cup Final at Wembley. These young boys will enjoy an opportunity of a lifetime. No doubt they will make the most of the occasion whatever the result.
Werby enjoyed a great run in winning the Chester FC tournament a few weeks ago. This enabled to compete in the North West Regional Finals. Werby finished runners-up in this event. These successes allowed them to take part in the North of England Finals held in Bradford last week on 27th April. After finishing second in the round robin event Werby qualified for the semi finals of the tournament.
Tense Penalty Shoot Out
Werby then played York FC for a place in the final. All square at 0-0 sent the tie to a tense penalty shoot out. Werby held their nerve and came out on top on sudden death. In the final Werby faced Tamworth FC. A goal as early as 20 seconds in set the tone and Werby ran out 2-1 winners. This earned Werby the title of Champions of The North.
Coach and teacher, Matt Coaker, is understandably a very proud man. He commented, “We are so proud and thrilled at the boys achievement and are so excited to be representing the North of England in this match in such an amazing venue”.
Chief Executive of Chester FC Community Trust was also proud, “Everyone at Chester FC is hugely proud of the team and they have been wonderful representatives for our club and the city throughout this competition”.
Who knows, Werby’s exploits may unearth a budding star of tomorrow. Stay focused lads and enjoy every minute. Werby are on their way to Wembley and they should all be very proud of themselves.
“Allez, Allez, Allez, Allez, we’ve conquered all of Europe, we’re never gonna stop…..”, oops wrong team. Maybe we should have a song for Werby to celebrate their achievement. What about…..
“Wembley, Wembley, we’re the famous Werby FC and we’re going to Wembley….Wembley, Wembley”
What do you think? Do you have any others? If so, let me know.
By the way, Werby will face Champions of the South, Dartford, in the National final. Best of luck boys.
