Upcoming Energy Price Increases
We are no doubt all aware of the upcoming energy price increases to be implemented from 1st October. Just in case you weren’t aware, this means that the energy price cap will stand at a staggering average of £3,549 per annum. You can find more specific details in this link HERE. This post however is not to specifically pick the bones of such an increase. You are also aware of the many forums, online petitions etc that are lobbying against these incredible increases. And let’s hope these approaches do enjoy success.
Quite how so many households will be able to afford such increases is a huge worry. And whatever specific measures there will be in place should be looked at very closely. I would imagine Martin Lewis and his pals will be going into overdrive.
But aside from following invaluable advice and tips from these experts, what else can we do?
Upcoming Energy Price Increases
The impact of these upcoming energy price increases will, quite clearly, be felt far and wide by so many. But as it currently stands, they will be implemented on 1st October. Timing wise an even bigger nightmare. Right at the start of winter and a few weeks away from Christmas.
But for the purpose of this post, let’s try and park the energy issue and let’s try and look at the bigger picture. To coin the phrase of “robbing Peter to pay Paul” how do we combat rising energy prices with savings elsewhere?
To use an example, and not knocking other supermarkets in terms of their products and quality, but does this mean that more and more shoppers will be shopping at places like Aldi and Lidl? We’re already Aldi shoppers anyway, so no change there for us.
But even in the more expensive supermarkets, bargains can be found. But when are the best times for these bargains? When is the best time to go into, say Co-Op on Hoole Road for the best end of day bargains? Or, Tesco’s in Frodsham Street?
What other places are there? Is the newly opened (July this year) Heron Foods on the site of the old Dee Miller pub a good option to shop for bargains. NB: Bear in mind there is also a Heron Food store in Blacon. What are Heron Food Stores all about? Have a read of this HERE for more details. This link also has a store locator on the page so you can find the nearest one to you.
A Nation Of Bargain Hunters
Will these upcoming energy price increases turn us into a nation of bargain hunters? As well as considering choice of supermarkets and such like, what else? For those that like to go out now and then will this spell the end of going out social lives? If not, what do we do? Do we go out earlier, go home earlier? Or do we change our preferred venues to places like Wetherspoons?
Do pubs and restaurants provide more Happy Hour type offers? Many pubs and restaurants are suffering anyway after the recent pandemic restrictions, how are they expected to cope and compete against the possibility of fewer customers?
Do we as individuals change our life patterns quite significantly? Do we walk or cycle more instead of using public transport or taxis?
Where can we find things like, the best petrol prices in the area?
Also consider, do we as individuals, look for alternative ways of earning extra income? Extra hours at work if we can. Or, look for ways at which to earn an alternative income stream?
Upcoming Energy Price Increases – Thinking Outside The Box
The above are just a few suggestions and thoughts. There are many, many more to consider. The top and bottom of it though is that I reckon more and more of us need to think outside the box. In the upcoming weeks I will keep an eye out for special offers and such like and update where I can accordingly.
But what about you businesses out there? What are you going to be doing to keep business ticking over? Any special deals or offers? If so, let’s hear about them. Any I hear of I’ll make a note and post on here if and when I get the chance.
Difficult times ahead for many that’s for sure. But knowing the fighting spirit in so many of us, a situation we can overcome. It’s times like this when we need to pull together and try and help each other out. Let’s spread the word about any bargains or local special deals. That way we will not only be helping each other but also hopefully helping local, small businesses in the meantime.
