I couldn’t help but notice and be hugely impressed with this particular recent story. One of Chester’s most popular pubs, The Saddle Inn, located in Grosvenor Road has won a very, very prestigious award. In keeping with the actual award itself…..where’s the drumroll? Hang on, I know. I’ll do it myself. So while reading this, imagine an impressive “John Bonham-esque” drumroll aggressively building up to a tumultuous crescendo. Are you ready……let the drumroll begin!!

“Good evening folks and welcome to this years awards ceremony.” You can almost hear it can’t you.

“And the winner of the prestigious, “Britain’s Best Pub For Entertainment” goes to…….

Yes, you’ve got it. The Saddle Inn Grosvenor Road, Chester. I know this was announced a few weeks ago and being honest I meant to write about it a while back but I got waylaid. But as it is such a prestigious award it was always on my ‘to do’ list. And anyway, another message of congratulations a bit further down the line may well extend the celebrations that bit longer.

So, may I offer my belated “Congratulations” to The Saddle Inn. What a fantastic achievement. And a huge well done to landlord Leigh and all his staff. I must admit, even though I have met Leigh, I wouldn’t profess to know him, but I do know when I first met him that he was a very determined fella who was so enthusiastic about “making things happen” – as they say – in his city centre pub which is now so very popular.

A well earned and well deserved award. Great effort Leigh.

“Found in the heart of picturesque Chester, this pub defies tradition with its rock n’ roll aesthetic. From guitar necks used to pull pints to symbol-lights and band posters that deck the walls, there’s a thousand things to grab your attention.

The pub also boasts nine rock-themed rooms spread over two floors overlooking the city. Each feature a replica guitar the original artist was known for playing. On top of this, there’s a tattoo studio on site, as well as a studio room that acts as a performance and rehearsal venue.

These spaces were renovated during the pandemic, yet grunge aesthetic is not forgotten, with chandeliers adorning the walls which are painted red and black However, the Saddle isn’t just for die-hard rock fans.

As well as rock bands, the Saddle hosts jazz musicians, acoustic sessions and open mic nights. It’s a venue that stands out in the cathedral city.“

Great sentiments there. And please note the bolded out last sentence (the bolding bit is me, not the actual sentence). I think that sums it all up really doesn’t it.

It is a brilliant award to have won, so again “Congratulations” to one and all at The Saddle.
