The Groves Hoole
Visitors to my website will be well aware that I am a great fan of The Groves that we are so lucky to have alongside the River Dee. It is a fantastic venue to enjoy all the year round. But more so in the warmer months as there is more going on. For instance, take a look at my recent post about the Chester Duck Race. And not too far down the line we also be able to enjoy the Chester Raft Race. However this post is about another Groves. Or to be more precise, The Groves. In this article I am talking about The Groves Hoole.
What is The Groves Hoole all about you may ask? Let’s take a closer look shall we.
The Groves Hoole
The Groves Hoole can be found at 24, Charles Street, Hoole and it can be described as a herbalist shop, or a herbalist dispensary. It has been established in Hoole since 2002. Some Hoole locals I know still remember the premises from its days as a butchers. The owner of The Groves, Sandra, is a qualified medical herbalist and is dedicated to helping you and assisting with remedies.
I’ve put the last few words of that sentence in bold as this is so true. On many occasions I have come away from there feeling so much more informed and have a greater understanding.
Greater Understanding
As an example, a few years ago I had an appointment with a consultant at The Countess. As much as we tried, we couldn’t communicate on the same level. I didn’t fully understand what was told to me for various reasons and I don’t think my specific questions were understood either. Not to worry though, as straight after my appointment, I popped into The Groves to buy some herbal medication and while there I had a chat with Sandra about the appointment I’d just had. And the suggested medication.
I came away with a greater understanding and a greater sense of comfort. No disrespect to the consultant at The Countess, but the way Sandra explained it to me was so much better and clearer.
I also had situations where a certain herbal medication was deemed to be ideal for my complaint, only for Sandra to remember that I was on a certain NHS prescribed medication that would have conflicted. So, onto a Plan B with my NHS medication in mind.
As an aside, I’ve often made the comment about how NHS medications are in a way robbing Peter to pay Paul so to speak. A case in point. I heard recently about how 30 years of arthritis medications had been a likely significant cause of liver damage in a patient. A recent suggested change in arthritis medication meant a very first liver scan referral. The result of the liver scan? Fibrosis Level 4 largely impacted, in all likelihood, by the ‘heavy duty’arthritis medication. A condition known as NASH, Non-alcoholic steato hepatitis.
The Groves Hoole Helpfulness
Ergo, robbing Peter to pay Paul. While the arthritis medications were helping arthritic aches and pains, other issues were created. That’s not to say there isn’t conflict with herbal remedies. What has been comforting though from my own experiences is that a trip to The Groves Hoole has explained many of the potential conflicts.
Again, just to clarify, this is not having a pop at the NHS. We all know the strains and issues they are under. It’s ‘horses for courses’ as far as I’m concerned. A visit to The Groves works for me. It may not for others. Point taken. But as the store stocks a wide range of herbal medications for a wide range of ailments, a visit from me is always on the cards. Add to that the invaluable feedback and it is a must visit shop for me.
I suppose the only way to find out if it works for you is to pay them a visit. Here are their opening hours:
Their telephone number is 01244-319744.
While I’m on the subject Chester Health Store on Bridge Street Row is also well worth a visit.
