The Groves Chester
If you have been reading my posts you will know I do like a trip down to our Chester river – the River Dee. In particular, I really enjoy visiting an area on the bank of the river known as The Groves. The Groves Chester is a paved promenade where you can sit and watch the world go by. So relaxing. So peaceful.
At The Groves you will find a bandstand, cafes, pubs and restaurants. As I say, you can just sit and chill and relax. Or, why not take a stroll along the riverbank or take in the sights by hiring a motorboat, a rowing boat or a pedalo. You could of course chillax completely and take a trip on one of the many trips organised by the Chester Boat Company. Boasting three popular boats – Mark Twain, The Lady Diana and The Jackie.
The Groves Chester
The Chester Boat Company run tranquil cruises departing from The Groves several times a day. The shortest cruise they run is a half-hour long. It departs The Groves and travels the River Dee upstream. The cruise takes you under the suspension bridge, past Grosvenor Park and the Earl’s Eye. After which, the cruise then follows the long sweep of the Meadows to the city limits before returning back to the Groves.
On this tour you will be able to view Chester from a different perspective. You will be able to take in some beautiful sights, including some interesting and stunning riverside properties. There will of course be a variety of local wildlife to accompany you on your way as well. Look out for the swans, cormorants and kingfishers.
These half hour trips are just one type of cruises offered by Chester Boat Company. If time permits though, I would highly recommend the two hour trip. So informational and relaxing. You can of course have a snifter as well while taking in the sights. And why not!!
When I was down The Groves last weekend, it was so peaceful and relaxing. On occasions, Sunday afternoons mainly, you can catch some really good live music acts. Have a look at this short video I’ve produced……music courtesy of local band – JakLash Cat.
The Groves Chester is also a very popular location for local motorbike and scooter lovers to visit at weekends. You will see a fine array of motorbikes and scooters just opposite Hickory’s.
Places To Eat And Drink
If it is just a refreshing ice cream you fancy then there are plenty of options to choose from. A portion of cheesy chips maybe? No problem, you can get these from the cafe opposite the boat launch.
Or, what about something a bit more substantial? Well, then you should be thinking of one of these places. The Boathouse, Hickory’s Smokehouse, the Riverside Cafe and the Blue Moon cafe are just a few, well known eateries and drinkeries you can pop in to.
Hop On Hop Off
A mere 50 yards from Hickory’s Smokehouse you can hop on a local City Sightseeing Tour bus. This popular, regular feature will enable you to see the city in a unique, relaxed way. Why not kill two birds with one stone so to speak (not that I would ever consider harming any birds with or without a stone of course), and take a cheeky trip up the River Dee, followed by a City Sightseeing Tour.
If you are thinking of a weekend day out, or a weekend short break, or even a longer holiday, then you must consider Chester. When visiting, you must take in The Groves Chester. A beautiful spot….you’ll love it!!
