The Chester Live Street Festival
As I said in my post yesterday there was only one place to be yesterday and that was in Brook Street for the Chester Live Street Festival. I think it’s fair to say the event was a huge success. Well, I say that as a punter. We had a great day. Hopefully it was also a great day for the organisers, the entertainers, the stallholders and the local businesses in Brook Street.
The Chester Live Street Festival
The weather was fabulous yesterday so this added to the ambience and the atmosphere no doubt. It was, as they say, Scorcio!! A quick walk over from Hoole at about 3pm was a good time really to enjoy the occasion. Speaking to some stallholders they were saying that is quite quiet while the football was on.
Football? What football? In case you didn’t know, England were playing Panama in a World Cup Group match. England won 6-1 by the way.
Talking of stallholders I quite liked this brilliant stall. Ideal for all animal lovers, a stall called Imperial Pets. A new, local business owned by Claire Owens. Some of you may know Claire as the owner of the very famous Brutus the Morrisons cat.
A lot of interesting products on Claire’s stall. As there was on many other stalls.
Did anyone try the curried goat? The stall certainly seemed to be very popular. There always seemed to be a fair old queue.
The Music
Of course the day was mainly about the music. And fair do’s there were some really great performances on show. It was great to see the visitors bopping along and really getting into it. A perfect combination of quality entertainment, great weather and an appreciative audience. And good beer as well of course.
Carnival Atmosphere
There’s was a real, relaxed, feelgood carnival atmosphere going on. So good to see so many people enjoying the event. And it was so good to see the stalls keeping busy. I hope they had a successful day. There was even a fire engine turned into a bar parked up about halfway down Brook Street. How cool was that. Very reasonably priced as well.
I was disappointed that my video of the bowls match at the back of the St Werburgh’s Catholic Club didn’t come out. How chilling was it though to enjoy a snifter and watch the bowls. Sitting drinking a cracking pint of Spitting Feathers watching some of Brook Street’s finest bowls players strut their stuff. Very civilised indeed.
The carnival atmosphere extended into the pubs as well. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and there was not one hint of trouble anywhere to be seen.
Without a doubt the event was so well organised and marshalled. There was an obvious, but subtle, presence of the events organisers knocking about. A lot of the volunteers were regularly seen keeping the streets neat and tidy.
I even got in the musical mood myself. Anything Richard Jones can do and all that. Thoroughly immersed in the musical theme of the day I “knocked ’em bandy” with a karaoke warble in the Egerton Arms. Don’t worry, no danger of me giving up the day job!! I’ll leave the singing to the experts.
Yes indeed, Chester Live Street Festival was a roaring success for all the punters it would seem.
A big thank you to all the entertainers, the organisers, the stallholders and the shops and pubs for helping to make it a memorable day.
Hopefully the Chester Live Street Festival is here to stay. Looking forward to next year’s already!!!
