Sharing A Tribute To Frank Varey
Such sad breaking news today. Young local boxer, 16 year old Frank Varey from Handbridge, tragically lost his life yesterday in an accident on the River Dee. Regular website visitor, John from Blacon, has sent me this “Sharing A Tribute To Frank Varey” message.
For many people living in Chester, a trip down to the river is a huge attraction. Myself included. And even more so on these hot, sunny days we’ve been enjoying. With that though there is a recognition of the possible perils of going into the River Dee. Sadly this young man, a very talented boxer by all accounts, paid the ultimate price yesterday. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Frank Varey.

“The family of a teenage boxer who died in the River Dee have paid tribute to their ‘young king.’
Frank Varey, 16, was tragically pronounced dead at the river Handbridge, just south of Chester yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2.30pm and an extensive search was initiated for the youngster.
Tributes have poured in for the talented boxer, who was described as a “future world champion.”
Frank’s parents, brothers and sister said: “We are devastated beyond words, Frank was a legend in the boxing world and in life.
“May our Young King live on forever.”
