Second Vaccine Dose
Website followers may recall that I wrote about my first vaccine experience a few weeks ago. I wrote it from an overall experience angle. In other words, how well or not the whole event was organised. If you haven’t read it, or would like to read it again, you can see what I had to say by heading on over to HERE. So, all well and good with the first vaccine dose. But what about the second vaccine dose?
Second Vaccine Dose
After the first vaccine I was informed that the second vaccine dose would be in 12 weeks. As my first vaccine dose was on the 3rd February, I was surprised to receive a letter on Wednesday of this week informing me that my second vaccine dose appointment was now arranged. A bit ahead of the game and before the anticipated 12 weeks, my second jab was today. Job’s a good ‘un and all that.
As with the first vaccine, the second dose was also to be administered at St Columba Church in Newton and was also going to be the Pfizer version. And my appointment was a good and early time as well. The appointment was for 08:54 am. Still not quite sure how 08:54 fits in with a four minute time slot, but never the mind. That’s not really particularly important. The important thing of course was actually being invited for the second vaccine dose in the first place.
Second Vaccine Dose – St Columba Church
Up bright and early and isn’t always great to see a lovely sunny day when you first get up. It was beautiful this morning. What a lovely morning to get a bit of exercise in as well. A nice leisurely walk to St Columba’s to get there in good time.
I got there just after 08:45 am. So, around seven or eight minutes early. Upon arrival, you are requested to join the queue by a high vis yellow jacketed volunteer. Soon after you are asked which medical practice you are with. From that information the main, initial queue is then split into smaller, alternative queues in accordance with whichever practice you are with.
Adequate floor signage to assist you and an abundance of volunteers guiding you along as well once inside the main hall. Once jabbed, a sticker was placed on my shirt announcing the time my 15 minute recovery period was up. The sticker said 09:08 am. So, that meant that my jab was completed, all done and dusted by 15 minutes before then. In other words, 08:53 am. How good is that. Seeing that I got to St Columba’s at about 08:47 am or 08:48 am…..ish, the whole second vaccine experience lasted 5 or 6 minutes.
I’ve never been in the military but if I had, I guess I’d be saying that the whole set up is run like a military operation. An excellent, efficient service provided by everyone. Well done to all those involved. And a special thanks to Sam and Georgina, the nurses who completed my paperwork and administered the jab.

Side Effects
As with the first jab – no side effects. Well, none so far. After my 15 minute recovery I walked home in the sun without any changes at all really. That’s not to say there won’t be any long term side effects of course. But, so far so good.
On one of the walls was a sign announcing that St Columba’s had administered 14,000 jabs. I’m not sure how up to date that is. The figure may well be significantly higher. But whatever the figure ends up being, it is a very impressive number. And as I keep saying, well done to all those who were involved. A very efficient and effective service. Many thanks to all you volunteers and nurses for all you have done.
