Run The Chester Zoo 10k On 31st October
Now here’s something that I would definitely have a go at if it wasn’t for my dodgy knees. Well, not just knees actually. Try any movable joint. Every movable joint = Oooooo……sharp intake of breath!!! And not to mention my back. Wow, my back!!! And my feet!!! Anyway, enough about my aches and pains, let’s get back to the real message hey. And the real, important, message is, there is a Chester Zoo 10K run for you to consider. Run The Chester Zoo 10K
“People looking to keep fit and help support Chester Zoo at the same time can enter a brand new running event. The Chester Zoo 10k event has been launched and is due to take place on Sunday, October 31.
The unique course will see runners go through the zoo before heading out on to surrounding closed roads, through the hamlet of Picton and the village of Wervin before returning inside the zoo for the finish.
A total of 25 per cent from each entry fee will go towards Chester Zoo to continue its conservation work. The event, organised by RunThrough, which holds a large number of UK running races including the Cheshire 10k on October 16 and the Running GP at Oulton Park on August 8, will see competitors have included in their entry free admission to Chester Zoo, a unique zoo-themed medal, a free RunThrough kit technical T-shirt and goodie bag, as well as official chip timed results.
Organisers urge people taking part not to turn up with fancy dress or face paint due to the risk of frightening animals inside the zoo. The event will be marshalled and signposted through the course, with water provided at the 5k checkpoint and portaloos at the event village.

The Race

Run The Chester Zoo 10K – What If?
This all seems a great idea and, of course, the Zoo benefits greatly as a good proportion of the admission fee will go to the Zoo. Of course, this would never happen, but, imagine if you could choose an animal to run alongside you. Within reason of course. For instance, you couldn’t choose a lion, but what about a penguin? I think my sister would choose her sponsored penguin if that was the case. My money would be on the penguin to win that little race.
Imagine the fun you’d have if you run the course with Boris, the Chimpanzee. He’d keep you on your toes wouldn’t he!!!
Sounds Like A Great Idea
It certainly sounds like a great idea. You will have noticed the warning of not taking part in fancy dress, or wearing face paint. That’s a fair suggestion. As the first part of the race is actually being run through the zoo, then hopefully that particular route will not mean that any of the animals will be freaked by the sheer number of runners going past their enclosure. I’m sure the organisers will have this covered.
There’s no mention of it being a sponsored run. I wonder if it would be possible for each runner to be sponsored if they so wished? That might be worth checking up on. If you do take part, I’m sure you will enjoy it. And, not only that, you will also enjoy a great deal of satisfaction as well no doubt, knowing how much support you will be giving to the zoo.
