Queues In Chester City Centre
Yes indeed, queues in Chester city centre. What’s that all about? It is good to say that the queues forming are outside a new city centre shop. With so much doom and gloom and seemingly endless bad news about shop closures, it is great to see something positive happen. And, it is really good to be able to write about some good news. So, where are these queues in Chester city centre and what’s all the fuss about?
Queues In Chester City Centre
There I was casually wandering up Frodsham Street the other day, minding my own business, when I noticed a queue of people in the street at the end of Frodsham Street on the left hand side. What can that be I thought? In my time I have gladly stood in long queues looking forward to the feature of the event at the end of that queue. Queueing for a multitude of footie matches over the years has been a regular event. Queueing to watch Led Zeppelin at Earls Court in 1975 and Knebworth in 1979 were very long, but extremely worthwhile bouts of endurance and huge, standout highlights of my youth. In fact, queueing for concerts generally, at a variety of venues, has been a regular occurrence over the years.
Even in Chester city centre. Anyone old enough to remember Thin Lizzy appearing at Quaintways back in the 1970’s? Any youngsters reading that last sentence will be saying, “who” and “who” again. For those that remember, take a trip down Memory Lane by having a read of this HERE. For those that are too young to remember, have a read anyway and wonder at the marvel of being able to buy a pint of Double Diamond for 15p!!! I can sense the question again – a pint of what?
Not only concerts though. Queueing for nightclubs. The Kings, Tiffanys, Cinderellas, Blimpers, Champers, Rendezvous, Quaintways (aka The Jazzy) to name just a few. Ah, happy days and such happy memories!!! Anyway, I’m going off on one aren’t I. So, back on track. Queues in Chester city centre – allow me to elaborate.
Queues In Chester City Centre – Fancy A Doughnut Anyone?
The queue I could see happened to be a queue for a new doughnut shop in Frodsham Street. By the looks of the queue and the hugely impressive comments of the satisfied customers I spoke to, not just any new doughnut shop. No siree, a doughnut shop extraordinaire it would seem. The name of the doughnut shop? Planet Doughnut.
The photo above doesn’t really do the queue justice. It actually snaked to slightly around the corner into Foregate Street. As I said to someone sat on one of the benches, I’ve queued for footie, beer, music and dancing around handbags, but never for a doughnut. And, as I touched on earlier, it was good to see. Something positive happening. Let it be the start of better things to come. On the day that we bid farewell to such an iconic store like Browns of Chester, it is great to witness a new beginning for someone willing to give it a go.
Let’s hope Planet Doughnut enjoys much prolonged success. Go for it. Judging by the queues, they seem to have already hit on a winning formula. Did I get to sample one? No, I didn’t, but I will. So, watch this space. Next time you’re in town and you like doughnuts, why not go and check Planet Doughnut out. You can find them in Frodsham Street.
Welcome to Chester city centre, Planet Doughnut. Long may the queues continue.
