Popular Pubs Recognised
I must admit I do like what I would call a proper pub. What I mean by that is a pub with character, a pub with history, a pub with atmosphere and a pub with a good regular crowd of punters. You may know the type. A pub you feel relaxed in as soon as you enter. Chester is blessed with quite a few such pubs. So it is really good to see two of these popular pubs recognised nationally. Regular pub goers won’t be surprised to see that The Albion and Ye Olde Cottage, both traditional pubs, have been recognised for their character and popularity. Let’s have a closer look shall we.

The Albion, located in Albion Street, and Ye Olde Cottage in Brook Street were recently included in The Telegraph’s 500 Best Pubs in England guide. Ye Olde Cottage Inn is also considered a community hub, according to Chester Nub News. Both pubs are praised in the guide for their resilience and popularity, particularly in the face of a challenging period for the pub industry.
Being a fan of cask beer, both pubs offer a real great choice of ales. They are famous for it. And if you fancied a nibble, you can grab a bite in The Albion. The Cottage doesn’t offer food but what it lacks in culinary delights, it makes up for in traditional pub games. Anyone fancy a game of darts or bagatelle? If so, then you need to head off to The Cottage.
One other significant thing to note about The Albion are the opening hours. The hours are as they were before pubs began to open all day. It closes at 3pm in the afternoon, Monday to Saturday and 2pm on a Sunday. Evening opening times are 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 7pm on a Sunday.
Both pubs are well worth a trip. But don’t just take my word for it, go try them out for yourself.
