Over 55 Club April Events

Firstly, I hope each and everyone of you have a lovely Easter break. Let’s hope the weather is good hey. At least when there is good weather our options for things to do are increased. I’ve mentioned these places so many times before, but we are so lucky here in Chester to have so many beautiful places of interest right on out doorstep. Chester Zoo, The Groves, Grosvenor Park, The Walls, The Rows to name just a few locations. Why not make the most of the weekend and check out what’s happening here in Chester. But looking beyond Easter, let’s have a look at one of my favourite, regular venues. The Over 55 Club at Hoole Community Centre.

Over 55 Club

To start with I’m not sure if I’ve given it the correct title. It may be called the “55 Club.” Anyway, correct title aside, it is a regular get together every Wednesday where members aged 55 and over gather at Hoole Community Centre in Westminster Road in Hoole.

I’ve been a few times while taking an 86 year-old neighbour of mine. There’s always something of interest going on. And the events are so well run. Oh, I forgot to mention, you get lunch thrown in as well at the end (the club runs from 10am to 12:30pm for a fee of £5.00/week).

So, introductions and background sorted, what is happening at the Over 55 Club for the rest of April?

12th April – Cyber Security with P.C Andrew Kevan
Andrew from Cheshire Police’s Cyber Crime team will be offering security advice on how to stay free from fraud. He will tell us how to check if our email addresses have been compromised and how strong our passwords are against hackers!
19th April – Quiz with Sophie
Get ready to have your general knowledge tested at this team quiz with prizes!
26th April – Roger and Mike Acoustic Duo
This talented duo are back with us, performing more songs from the 60s and 70s with acoustic guitars and
3rd May – Dave Atkinson – Golden Threads: Every Song Sings a Story
This is the title of Dave’s self-published book which draws on some of his 450 self-made songs to show that a song can be both the end of one story (of its creation) and the beginning of other stories. Dave will talk about – and sing – a couple of those songs and take us on some surprising journeys.

Over 55 Club – Why Not Pop Along

Apart from the main events mentioned above, there is of course the opportunity to meet a fine array of interesting people. A great way to get out and about, meet friends – new and old – have a bite of lunch and a generally great time. So, why not pop along. You will probably be pleasantly surprised.
