Neighbourhood Watch October
A Neighbourhood Watch is always worthwhile at any time. Even in these strange times we live in. You may think that as more and more of us are stuck at home because of the virus, a Neighbourhood Watch is less significant. Not so. A Neighbourhood Watch is vital at any time. We all still need to stay vigilant. John from Blacon has kindly sent me this Neighbourhood Watch October update. Have a read of it and the link included in the post. Some very useful information.
Also, take note of a couple of practical steps you can take to be more secure. You can read about them below John’s update. As ever, thanks for the information John.
Neighbourhood Watch October 2020
“This month we are thrilled to launch, for the third year running, the Neighbour of the Year Award. In partnership with our friends at Co-op Insurance and Neighbourhood Watch Network’s first ever Community Grants Fund.
We get to know our CEO, John Hayward-Cripps better in our Spotlight feature. Also, we get to look at County Lines and what we can do about them.
Furthermore we offer guidance and advice on supporting communities, and sustaining your Neighbourhood Watch group, as we face a rise in Covid-19 cases across England and Wales.
So grab your tea, put your feet up and enjoy our newsletter. Don’t forget to share it with your community. https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/sites/default/files/documents/2020-10/Our%20News%20October%202020.pdf

Neighbourhood Watch – Be Aware Of These Tips
As well as looking out for our neighbours, don’t forget to look out for yourself. Here’s a couple of tips to take note of.
If you have any strangers with ID knocking on your door. The Police recommend that you check the ID of anyone knocking on your door claiming to be from a company.
First of all, check the ID and get the company details on the ID badge. But, the Police also say, do not call the phone number on their ID card. Instead, ask them to wait outside while you search for the company’s phone number on the internet, or from a phone book. Do not let them into your property if you have concerns.
Also, Age UK recommend that you put up a sign on your door or window to deter cold callers. Furthermore, setting passwords with utility companies to be used by anyone sent to your home and finding out if you have a nominated neighbour scheme to help make sure callers are safe.
This last bit regarding a neighbourhood scheme is a good idea. It may be something we should all consider in our own neighbourhoods.
That’s it folks on this latest, Neighbourhood Watch October blog post. Thanks for reading.
