Hoole Christmas Lights Switch On 2018
The weekend before last (24th November) saw the Hoole Christmas lights switch on event. As ever the Hoole Christmas lights switch on is a much anticipated occasion. Not only for Hoole residents but also for visitors from further afield. This year was no exception in terms of the numbers that turned up for the switch on. There were people from far and wide.

As you can see from these images there was a really good turnout again.
And, as in previous years, the brass band kept it festive with their playing of Christmas Carols.
As always when it comes to Christmas, it is a time for the children. Looking at the smiling faces they all seemed to enjoy themselves. And that is the main thing. The shops that were open seemed to be doing a steady trade. As did the pubs and the restaurants.
A Cheeky Couple Of Pints After
I had a cheeky couple of pints after the switch on. Well, it would have been rude if I didn’t wouldn’t it? So, we went into the Royal Oak – a real belting, proper pub. Good beer, good atmosphere etc.
Anyway it was while we were in there, a couple of people were pointing out a couple of key things missing this year (their observation – not mine). One was the lack of street stalls. The other was the lack of fireworks. Thinking about it I do think the stalls did add to the occasion in previous years. Not being a fireworks fan necessarily, I could take or leave the fireworks option.
Even the lack of stalls did not have a massive impact on proceedings though. As I said earlier, Christmas is all the young ‘uns isn’t it. They seemed to be enjoying themselves enough so that takes care of that small point then really doesn’t it.
Credit To The Organisers And Volunteers
A big thank you and a big pat on the back for all those that contributed time and money to make this year’s Hoole Christmas Lights Switch On 2018 another successful event. As ever Faulkner Street and Charles Street look very impressive lit up with the Christmas lights.
It looked as though everyone had a good time so all good by the looks of it. Well done again one and all. Looking forward to Hoole Christmas Lights Switch On 2019 already.
