Hoole Christmas Lights 2023 Switch On
Just a quick post to give a mention to the excellently organised Hoole Christmas Lights 2023 Switch On. As in previous years, Faulkner Street and Charles Street were closed off to cars. And both streets were awash with happy, smiling faces. But that’s enough of a mention to the business owners who helped to make the event such a success!!
Seriously though, there were many, many attendees enjoying themselves. So many excited young children. Which is always great to see of course as Christmas is such an exciting time for little ‘uns. And for us big ‘uns as well of course, but a special, magical time for children in particular.
Hoole Christmas Lights 2023 Switch On
As the photo above shows and one I took at about 6:30pm (lights were switched on at 6pm), Faulkner Street was well busy. As in previous years, a stage was erected in between the Bromfield and the Faulkner pubs. Local radio were there and there were several live music performances.
Also evident in the photo are several stalls. It was good to see stalls in the street again. They certainly add to the occasion. Several shops also stayed open a bit later. And why wouldn’t they. Plenty of people knocking about so a great opportunity to boost revenue. That’s what it’s all about really. A community event that also helps local traders in the community.
And of course and no surprise, the pubs and food outlets were doing a roaring trade.
All in all a great event as ever.
Hoole Christmas Lights – Looking Ahead
In my previous post in the build up to Saturday, I happened to mention that the estimated cost for the annual Christmas lights is in the region of £10,000. From what I can gather, this is funded exclusively from donations from businesses and locals. Also from what I can gather, some businesses are very generous with their donations, with others not so. Whoever contributes and how much, is up to them of course. But the funding did make me think. As the event is organised for the benefit of the whole community, then wouldn’t it be great if the annual headache of finding finance of the event was taken away from the organisers.
What’s the population of Hoole? Isn’t it about 9,000? If all locals donated a princely sum of £1.00, that is very nearly the required amount needed. Maybe the organisers should set up something like a “2024 Go Fund Me” account to help pay for next year’s costs. Just a thought. Especially as we can all enjoy this excellent annual event and continue to enjoy the lights into the New Year.
But anyway, thanks to the organisers for yet again putting on a great event. Everyone I spoke with were very complimentary of the occasion. Even the intermittent rain downpours didn’t seem to dampen (no pun intended) the mood. So well done one and all involved.
And a special thanks for our mucho bueno (may give an idea as to where that was) meal we had. It was, well, as ever……mucho bueno!!
