First Signs Of Spring?
Is it, can it be? Can it really be the first signs of spring today? Let’s hope so. Although maybe that statement is a bit premature. I haven’t seen the forecast for the weekend yet, so maybe today it is a false dawn. But to be fair, what a lovely day today.
First Signs Of Spring?
No, not that sort of spring!!! Get a grip fella!! Anyway, it is a far better day today weather wise. To begin with, I regularly visit an elderly neighbour – more often than not on a Friday – for a chat and a coffee. Today was the first day for absolutely yonks I didn’t need my coat to walk round to see him.
That was a good start. The sun was shining, the birds chirping, the flowers were looking……er…..flowery!!! The weather was that encouraging it even tempted me to get my pushbike out.
So, as it happens the temptation worked. I did get my pushbike out. All good so far. Now the difficult decision. Do I actually ride it? What the hell. Why not. It may be bucketing down over the weekend and today has been a false dawn after all. So, instead of just staring at it, I decided to ride it. Job’s a good ‘un!!
First Signs Of Spring – What’s That Noise?
It was the first time I’d ridden my pushbike for a couple of weeks. I think it’s fair to say both bike and rider were in need of a late fitness test. But, now committed (that means I had already donned my fluorescent, bright yellow – “go faster” jacket) I couldn’t back out now.
So off I went. After a short distance though, what was that noise? A rather disturbing cranking and clicking noise was very evident. What was it? Shall I continue?
It didn’t take me long to suss out what it was. No need to panic. I realised I’d heard that exact same noise before. And, also on the plus side, there was nothing wrong with my bike. Yaaayyyy!! My knees on the other hand!! Gone!! Finito, benito!! Oh well, maybe exercise will help rid me of the cranking and the clicking.
And sure enough it did. I had a good old ride. My knees were feeling so much better. No need for me to go bombing along. Just a gentle cycle without setting off any speed cameras. Thoroughly enjoyable. And let me tell you – there’s no shame in having pedestrians go bombing past you. Well, not after the first time anyway.
First Signs Of Spring? If Not, Spring Must Be Very Close
Seriously though, a good cycle ride was much welcomed. It blew away some cobwebs. And, while cycling, it was quite warm. So, if today wasn’t exactly the first signs of spring, it can’t be far away. I may even get my bike serviced. (NB: I wish I could get my knees serviced but that’s another story!!).
Hopefully the weather is now changing for the better and we are rid of Hurricane “Every Man and His Dog.” If so, make the most of it folks. And if the weekend’s weather is good, have a great weekend one and all.
If by any chance you are out and about on your bikes on Sunday and you see a yellow blur speed past you and you feel a huge gust of wind, don’t worry it’s only me.
Whatever you are up to this weekend – have a good ‘un. First signs of spring or not.
