Farewell Morrissey Thanks For The Memories
Maybe not a specifically Chester related topic but a topic that is very relevant to pet owners everywhere. Including residents of Chester of course. Which we are. As you can tell from the article heading “Farewell Morrissey Thanks For The Memories” it is an article about a sad passing. And in this case, it is the sad passing of our beautiful, furry family member, Morrissey.
Pet owners everywhere will understand the recognition that our pets are family members. They are that important to us. And as we all know, losing a family member is heartbreaking. So this post is a combination of several things.
One is that we can recognise the devastation of losing a family member. Also, reading this may help other pet owners to come to terms with their loss. And, having the platform of this website, enables me to show an outpouring of my sadness. Which will do me good. As I’ve often said in my posts, my website, my rules (I mean that last bit in a lighthearted sense by the way).
But most importantly, it enables we as a family to pay tribute to our special boy and to take the opportunity to say farewell Morrissey thanks for the memories.
Farewell Morrissey Thanks For The Memories
Regular readers may remember that I mentioned Morrissey in a post some time ago. Just over two years ago in fact. It was called “Morrissey Says Hello” and it was a quick mention of “Our Moz” celebrating his 14th birthday. You can no doubt do the maths and you will realise that “Our Moz” is now 16 years of age. An age that is recognised as being old for a cat. Having said that though, I am well aware of cats living into their 20’s. An achievement, sadly, Moz didn’t quite reach however.
The photo above was taken a few days ago shortly after we received the devastating news of Morrissey’s diagnosis from a very unsympathetic vet. This isn’t the time or place for me to vent my anger and frustration about the awful, uncaring service we received from the vet.
The photo shows Morrissey licking off the remaining delights of one of his favourite treats from his kitten days – Sticky Toffee Pudding. As a kitten, our Moz loved it as a treat. So, when we heard the heartbreaking news, we went out of our way to spoil him – even more so than normal. And rightly so. As we always said, “what our Moz wants, our Moz gets.” And he really wanted his sticky toffee pudding!!
Bringing him home after being given the bombshell news about his condition, we decided to seek the services of an alternative vet to come to our house and to send Morrissey on his way in a place he loved, was loved in, felt comfortable in and for him to pass with some style and dignity.
So, on that note, a big thanks to James and Olivia from local vets practice, Storrar. They both helped immensely in making a very intense, sad occasion, progress as comfortably as possible. Morrissey was looked after so very well in his final moments. That gave us some comfort, especially as we had no experience of such sad situations.
Morrissey’s Last Few Days
At the time we brought him home from the initial vet visit, Morrissey still seemed his normal self in many respects. And that’s what adds to the heartache. As I’ve said many times, if only our pets could talk. I think, over the years, if Morrissey could, his favourite dialogue would have included, “more chicken please.” A request we regularly obliged with.
The image below shows Morrissey enjoying a bit of “me time” the day before his passing. He loved the garden. Especially relaxing on top of the gate, while ‘surveying’ his kingdom, keeping an eyeful watch up and down the alley and enjoying seeing the birds flying overhead.
In his last few days however, as his appetite was leaving him (even chicken), I think his dialogue would have changed somewhat. I think he would have said something like, “I’m suffering please let me go.” And so we did. The final, heartfelt gift we could have given him. To let him be at peace and to be pain free. “Our Moz” was surrounded by love and he was as comfortable as could be in a home he knew so well and loved so much.
Farewell Morrissey Enjoy Your Next Journey
As mentioned above, seeing Morrissey slip away so peacefully was some comfort to us. And now he has left us, we like to feel that he has started his next journey, or his next adventure. I’m sure if there are any curtains for him to run up and down, he will be doing so with as much enthusiasm he used to show doing so as a kitten. Or, if there is a computer cupboard he can hide in and play in, he will find it. And as for finding the best spot to sleep off a belly full of chicken – he’ll be right there!!
Farewell Morrissey thanks for the memories. The last 16 years have been an absolute pleasure and a special era of so many happy moments. We will hold on to these happy memories and moments forever. We are looking forward to having you back home and to place you where you would so like to be. With us every day, still feeling the love, the care and the warmth.
Special hugs and kisses our beautiful boy.
