Entertainment In Chester

In addition to Chester being a place of huge historical interest, it also offers some great entertainment. If you are looking for entertainment in Chester, then first of all take a look here.

Live Rooms

Situated in Station Road, The Live Rooms is Chester’s newest and largest independent live music venue. Live Rooms has hosted a variety of some of the biggest names in music from a diverse range of genres. Several tribute bands have appeared since its opening in October 2013.

Bands like Whole Lotta Led (Led Zeppelin), Live Wire (AC/DC) and a Bowie tribute, Absolute Bowie.  There is also an upstairs area which features a balcony overlooking the main room, a VIP bar and numerous seating areas.

Cruise

As well as being a nightclub venue, Cruise also offers a variety of live acts on a regular basis. Cruise can be found ideally situated in St Johns Street in the city centre.

Alas, I cannot give my own recommendation as my clubbing days are well behind me. My era was more Rendezvous, Tiffanys, Cinderellas et al. Ah…..great days without a doubt.

Although I cannot give a personal recommendation, I am reliably informed that as far as entertainment in Chester is concerned, Cruise is right up there. Who needs my recommendation hey!!!

Storyhouse

Developed on the site of the old Odeon cinema in Hunter Street, Storyhouse is Chester’s new £37m theatre, cinema, library and arts centre. The redeveloped 1930’s building has many attractions.

It is now the home of an 800-seat auditorium, as well as a 200-seat studio theatre. Visitors will also find a restaurant and two bars and a 100-seat boutique cinema.

Storyhouse is really going from strength to strength it would seem. Visitors flock to this impressive venue both during the day and the evenings. With regard to taking entertainment in Chester up a level, Storyhouse has been a really impressive addition to the Chester entertainment scene.

Telfords Warehouse

Telfords Warehouse is a popular, canal side bar and restaurant hosting live music and arts venue. Telfords also serves real ales plus pub grub.

A short and sharp mention maybe, but to the point. Some great live acts have appeared at Telfords. It is a fantastic venue in a great location and well worth a visit. Oh, and they serve some great beer as well. Result!!!

Alexanders Live

Also a popular entertainment venue is Alexanders, situated in Rufus Court, Northgate Street. This lively cafe-bar also stages music, cabaret and comedy shows, with dining and Sunday roasts.

I’m showing my age maybe but I was in Alexanders on the day of the official opening of Rufus Court back in the early 90’s. Bob Monkhouse was the celebrity cutting the tape – or whatever it was he did on the day.

My lasting memory of the late and great Mr Monkhouse was how friendly he was and how genuine he seemed. Oh, and how tall he was. A big man in size and in stature. 

Chester Bandstand

Chester Bandstand is not only a popular place to visit, but also a source of entertainment in Chester. Local bands and other performers utilise the facilities and entertain visitors to the Groves on a regular basis.

One of my favourite places ever. Not only in Chester, but on the planet!!! I do love my jaunts down to The Groves.

And it is a great place to some excellent entertainment in Chester. On a Sunday for instance, you can regularly see local band, JakLash Cat, perform some great stuff.

No doubt there’s more places of entertainment in Chester that I’ve missed. I think the ones mentioned are a good indication though that there are plenty of places to keep us entertained however. Talking of places of interest, or things to do in Chester.
