Congratulations Amy Truesdale
The topic headline says it all really doesn’t it. Congratulations Amy Truesdale on winning Great Britain’s very first Paralympic Taekwondo gold medal. Amy won it last night, 31st August in Paris, when she defeated Guljonoy Naimova from Uzbekistan in the final. A brilliant and well earned achievement from Chester born Amy.
As Amy said soon after, “I don’t think it’s sunk in.” Amy celebrated by performing a cartwheel and the splits on the mat she had just enjoyed her fantastic win.
Congratulations Amy Truesdale
Amy is no stranger to success. Last night’s triumph meant that Amy became the first fighter to hold Paralympic, world and European titles concurrently. Wow, that is some achievement. Also, Amy has enjoyed success at various events over the years. More specifically, Amy’s impressive medal tally includes a Bronze medal won a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 as Para Taekwondo appeared at the Paralympics for the first time. Amy is also for her World Championship wins in 2014, 2017 and 2023, thereby making her a triple World Champion.
And it doesn’t stop there. Amy is also a four-time European champion, winning gold’s in 2015, 2016, 2017 and most recently Gold at the 2024 European Championships in Serbia.
At this stage I’m thinking Amy may need a bigger medals cabinet as she also claimed Silver at the 2021 World Championships and Bronze at the 2022 Europeans.
All special achievements. However, in winning the Paralympic Gold, Amy said, “It’s the last medal I needed to complete my career. I’m the Paralympic champion and I’ve made history. I am so grateful for the support.”
Amy’s Dedication Pays Off
Amy also went on to say, “It’s just the sacrifices you make. This hasn’t been three or four years for me, it has been 27 years of my life, I haven’t put my focus into anything else. Sometimes you think, is it worth it? And, obviously with this, it’s definitely worth it and I hope I have inspired people.”
I don’t know Amy but I know people who do. And they all mention the huge amount of work and dedication she has put in over the years. She was very often seen out and about in Hoole and in Chester and for a while she used to work in retail outlets. Up until a few years ago, Amy would be seen working in a popular Chester city centre store in Frodsham Street. Even then however, she remained so dedicated to her Taekwondo.
Congratulations Amy Truesdale – The Icing On The Cake
Quite understandably Amy will be in celebratory mood after her brilliant success. And to cap it all (he said with tongue firmly in cheek!!), Amy has the icing on the cake award. The ultimate accolade of an inclusion in Chester Lifestyle’s annals of Famous People From Chester. Or, in this case, the Famous Chester Celebrities blog post, as this is an extension to my Famous People page.
But seriously though, it is worth repeating the message of huge congratulations. A truly brilliant achievement. Wishing you every success in all that you do in the future Amy.
