Chester Raft Race 2019
Always a popular event on the summer calendar, the Chester Raft Race 2019, took place on Sunday (30th June). Like last year, the weather was cracking the flags and the crowds turned out in large numbers. Very large numbers it seemed.
Chester Raft Race 2019
Although a few rafts didn’t turn up it was still an impressive event nevertheless. Flyboarding guru, Jay, was on hand again to impress us with his flyboarding skills. And to soak the participants on the rafts as well of course.
Jay’s flyboarding is a great addition to the day’s events. Quite a simple concept really flyboarding. Anyone remember Marty McFly’s hover-boards in Back To The Future? Well, the flyboard is similar to Marty’s hover-board.
Water is pumped to the flyboard by a hose connected to a jet ski. The power from the jet ski pumps the water through the hose to two jets under the flyboard. This enables the flyboard to reach heights of up to 60 feet. Pretty cool hey!!
And didn’t Jay use his elevated position to great effect. So many rafts were soaked unmercilessly. There was nowhere to hide as they quickly discovered.
Chester Raft Race 2019 – Chester Rock Choir
As soon as the raft race ended the crowds were entertained by the sounds of Chester Rock Choir. Fair do’s they belted out a good variety of rock numbers.
Also immediately after the race concluded spectators were encouraged to cross the river and to make their way to The Meadows. This is where families were setting up their picnics and settling down for an afternoon of relaxation.
Vendors were also there offering a variety of refreshments. The young ‘uns were taken care of as well with a blow up slide and other amusements.
Rotary Club
Indeed the day went well and the crowds were suitably entertained. A quick mention must go to the Rotary Club volunteers who marshalled and organised the event accordingly. I haven’t heard any figures but let’s hope their fundraising efforts were suitably rewarded.
A great effort by everyone involved.
Chester Raft Race 2019 was a huge success. It had all the ingredients. Great weather, an appreciative crowd, well organised, imaginative rafts assembled by participants and excellent entertainment, including of course Jay with his flyboarding.
Roll on next year for Chester Raft Race 2020.
