Chester Market Revisited
It doesn’t seem that long ago that any articles written about Chester Market were messages of concern and bad news. For instance, I wrote an article back in October 2017 about the impending rent hikes and the negative effects. This was after talking to several of the existing stallholders at the time. You can see that original article HERE.
But, fast forward almost two years and we are now witnessing a totally different Chester Market and a totally different outlook.
Chester Market Revisited
To say Chester Market has undergone, and is still undergoing, a bit of a renaissance is an understatement to say the least. A big understatement. Currently we are hearing that Chester Market will soon be full to capacity. Nine new local and independent stalls have either already opened for business, or their opening is imminent.
It’s worth stressing at this stage, the important phrase, “local and independent”. Just what we want.
The upturn in fortunes for Chester Market can be traced back to early 2018 when there was an influx of new food and drink businesses. Late night opening on a Friday has also helped massively. It is one of the “go to” places on a Friday. Such variety in food and drink options available.
Chester Market – Who Are The Newbies?
The introduction of the nine new arrivals brings the market up to a full capacity of 42 stalls. Of those nine already open are Vinological, The Art Kiosk by Mark Wigan, tea and coffee store Tea Island and Purely Pots, a specialist plant and flower stall open from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
Coming soon and not far behind these openings are:
Sans Studio – a studio run by Emily Gerrard producing prints and t-shirts
CH1 Barbers – A specialist barber shop
Liquor 2 Lips – A craft spirit merchant
Vinyl Ritchie – A vinyl record listening booth.
And a new Vegan restaurant.
There is now so much variety at Chester Market now. Particularly with regards to food stalls and stores. As well as the newbies, don’t forget the well established stalls who remember only too well days not so long ago of quieter times shall we say.
Stalls like my old mate, Kev Williams, at the cheese stall by the entrance. And of course the various butchers. It is a fitting reward if these long-term stallholders are also benefiting from Chester Market’s upturn in fortunes.
Long may it continue for new and established stalls and stores alike.
Chester Market – Where Is It?
If you don’t know Chester that well you may not know where Chester Market is. You can find it inside the Forum Shopping Centre about 100 yards from the Town Hall.
Market Opening Times? – Mondays to Thursdays and saturdays from 8am to 5pm. On a Friday, as already mentioned, it is open late. Foodie Friday sees the market stay open until 9pm.
All in all, great news for Chester as a whole and great news for the stall and store holders. Well done to all those who have contributed to the Chester Market renaissance.
So, next time you’re out and about in Chester city centre, pop along to the revitalised Chester Market. You won’t be disappointed.
