Chester Awarded Staycation City Of The Year

This is some accolade to have isn’t it. Particularly during these troubled times as well. Chester awarded staycation city of the year. Maybe we should refer to ourselves by the acronym, SCOTY? With a bit of poetic licence, you could pronounce that as “Scotty” as in “Beam me up Scotty” the famous catchphrase from Star Trek. I’m sure the marketing gurus are going into overdrive anyway and finding ways to promote this prestigious award. Maybe they could find a way to include the slogan – “Beam Me Up To SCOTY.” I’ll get my coat!!!

What the heck – I’ll bang the SCOTY drum in my blog post and social media. And why not.

Chester Awarded Staycation City Of The Year

Chester has been named ‘City of the Year’ in the UK Staycation awards.

In an online ceremony, the winners of the itravel Staycation Awards were announced on Thursday, June 10th. And it is a pleasure to announce that Chester has won this prestigious UK Staycation award.

Chester took to the stage when being named City of the Year, being called a ‘compelling’ destination for a ‘distinctive’ city break. This description will come as no surprise to us though will it. We won the award in the face of some fierce competition it would seem as over 1,000 nominations and entries were made for this year’s awards.

A panel of 23 judges announced the winners. These judges were assembled from organisations such as Ramblers, the Woodland Trust, Which? and Cool Camping. Their decision making took several weeks while they were reviewing the entries.

Entries were rated on their “point of difference, Covid response and commitment to sustainability, inclusivity and accessibility.”

In recognising Chester’s achievement, itravel said judges were impressed by the city’s ability to link global challenges to its own attractions. No bigger recognition of that is the excellent conservation work, lovingly performed by Chester Zoo. And there’s more examples.

Anyway what a great achievement. Congratulations to all those who took part and worked on getting our entry in and successfully administered.
