Buster Was Such A Special Boy
I’ve already mentioned that the new “Pets Corner” category is for all things pets. Which of course also covers remembering our much loved pets no longer with us. This in itself is a way of recalling the many happy memories we have enjoyed. A sort of a tribute section to the category in a way. In that respect, I have been asked to add a post about the much loved Buster. Buster was such a special boy to a family in Blacon.
And what a handsome boy he was. Find out more about Buster here.
Buster Was Such A Special Boy
A bit of background first. As you will see from the photo above, Buster was a chocolate labrador. What about chocolate labradors?
Firstly they have an incredible sense of smell. Some breeds, like bloodhounds and labradors, may have a sense of smell that is 100 million times better than that of a human.
Dogs use this powerful sense to recognize other animals, other dogs, people, foods and much more. The dog’s wet nose also helps amplify these smells. This works for smelling humans, too!
Buster Was Such A Special Boy – So Many Memories
You will soon see why Buster was such a special boy.
Here is what his family have told me:
“Buster loved being around the family. No doubt because no matter who it was in his presence he would come as close to them as possible with one thing in mind. Cuddles and strokes meant so much to him.
Being with the family provided him with endless hours of love and attention, from his cuddles and strokes to never ending ball games. Throw a ball in the air and he would be in his element when it came to catching it.
That game he would play all day had he been allowed to. Family time was all Buster ever wanted and received it to the fullest non-stop. He spent forever attempting to sit on laps, despite his size.
This usually came about if she joined him on his doggie bed! He adored being immediately close to his Dad in this position. He loved his daily walks. Everything ahead of him was worth sniffing!
Oddly enough that was exactly what he’d do when any visitor called at his house. He had what you might call a “bad habit” towards visitors upon their arrival. Once in the house, whether a brand new visitor, or a family member he knew and had grown up with, had to get used to Buster sniffing their bums!!
Once satisfied they were “OK” he would either return to his bed, or seek attention from them.
Buster Loved His Food….and a Cup of Tea!!!
He loved ANYTHING food wise, but was never a lover of vegetables. Then when Misty joined the family. One evening at meal time together he caught Misty eating the vegetables in his dish and never looked back on them!
Nobody could sit in peace and comfort with a cup of tea in their hand when Buster was around. He absolutely adored a cuppa! If you sat sipping your cuppa, Buster would nudge you until the only answer was to get up and go and make him one too.
His drink was gone in seconds which meant he would sit and look at others sipping theirs in the hope there would be a dribble or so left in the mug. More often than not there always was.
And He Loved Pressies!!!
Another of Buster’s favourite activities was the opening of his birthday and Christmas presents. More often than not the wrapping paper meant more to him than the presents themselves!
Of course at Christmas dinner. This was when he was allowed to sit alongside the family at the festive table. This was an occasion he always adored. He did prefer small toys to suck and nibble on, and thankfully never swallowed any of them.
Here’s Buster with one of his favourite pressies – his octopus….
Wherever the family went on holiday in the UK, Buster was always present. And he absolutely loved every minute of the whole holiday wherever that may be.
It was always somewhere near the sea as swimming was another of his great loves. Ball in the water and Buster would swim all day given the opportunity.
Like All Other Labradors
Why do chocolate labs stink? Bred to work in and around water, labradors have a dense double coat with an oily outer layer which offers almost perfect waterproofing.
These oils in your dog’s fur are part of the source of his distinctive doggy smell. And they can smell particularly strong when your dog is damp and drying off after a swim.“
Buster Was Such A Special Boy – And So Much Loved
You can see from the above that Buster was so well loved. And understandably so. Any pet owner will tell you that their pets are all so very special and that they add so much to their lives. Buster was no exception. A much loved family member.
Sadly, Buster was called and requested to go along to doggie heaven on 4th March this year. He was exactly thirteen and a half years old. As much as he is missed, the family will still always have their special memories of Buster. And there are so many of them. Hopefully this blog post will enable them to revisit these happy memories on a regular basis.
Below you will see a lovely tribute Buster’s family gave him on the day he left to go to doggie heaven….
