Books Of Condolence
As everyone is now well aware the country, and other parts of the world to a large extent, are in mourning. More specifically we are in mourning for the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II. This post, as well as offering our condolences to the Royal Family, is a brief, quick reminder of where and how you can sign one of the Books of Condolence.
With so much coverage nationally and locally you may very well be fully up to speed. But just in case you’re not and you are still thinking about signing one of the Books of Condolence, there follows some details for you to be aware of.
Books Of Condolence
There are several venues where you can still sign books of condolence. The date has passed for some of the venues to sign before the funeral on Monday 19th September. But there are some venues accessible on other dates and all venues are also accessible again on Tuesday 20th September.
Let’s have a closer, more detailed look.
The Council’s condolence books are available to sign during regular office opening hours. These can be found at the following locations:
- Chester Town Hall
- Chester Cathedral
- Northwich Memorial Court
- Wyvern House, in Winsford
- Ellesmere Port Library and The Portal, in Ellesmere Port
There are possibilities of other books of condolence being opened by town and parish councils and local religious places elsewhere.
These books mentioned above will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 20 September, closing completely at 5pm the same day.
However, the books of condolence will remain open at Chester Town Hall and Chester Cathedral during the public holiday on Monday 19 September.
The books will be bound and kept in the borough’s archive as a record of the sentiments expressed by local people on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It is also possible to send an online message. Just click the link below for more details:
Flower Carpets
As well messages of sympathy, flowers can also be placed outside these venues:
- Chester Town Hall
- Ellesmere Port Civic Square
- Northwich Memorial Court
- Wyvern House, Winsford
Please note however, that anyone wishing to leave flowers are asked to remove any plastic wrapping before laying their floral tribute.
Alternatively, people may wish to consider supporting one of the many charities, associations or organisations that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was linked with. You will be able to fine these on the Royal Family website – link below:

The day after the Queen’s State Funeral, Tuesday 20 September, the flower carpets will close. Once closed, all flowers will be removed and transferred to Grosvenor Park, Chester, where they will be laid near the wicker sculpture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The flowers will remain there until Friday, 23 September 2022. After this time, the flowers will be mulched and spread around trees, in areas across the borough which form the Queen’s Green Canopy.
Books Of Condolence – There’s Still Time
As I mentioned above you may well be fully in the know of these venues, times and dates. However, just in case you are not, this post is a gentle reminder in case you were thinking of sending a message.
