Bonfire Night
In case you didn’t know already but I’m sure you did, tomorrow night is Bonfire Night. An annual event that has been celebrated for so many years. Nowadays it doesn’t seem to be as popular – or is that just me and I’m missing something?
I did a “Bonfire Night In Chester” post two years ago. Much, if not all, of that post still applies. Have a look at it HERE and you will see a bit of Bonfire Night history, how we celebrated “Bonny Night” as kids and a very necessary and valuable safety warning. The post also finishes off with a vital safety video message for your pets.
As per the 2017 article we still have our four moggies and, like in 2017, they are under house arrest. From late afternoon onwards for the last week or so, they are confined to indoors.
What I have noticed this year in the build up to Bonfire Night has been a series of loud bangs going off at “silly o’clock” from somewhere close to us it seems. Not sure what that is all about. But anyway, look after your pets. Have a read of the article above and if you feel strongly about the control of Bonfire Night celebrations, have a look at this short article and have a look at the petition link.
Bonfire Night – Online Petition
Regular Chester Lifestyle visitor, John from Blacon, has started his own petition (see details below). If it is something you feel strongly about and would like to support John’s petition – click the link. At the moment there is a message announcing that the powers that be are still considering John’s petition.
Will it be approved by today or tomorrow? I don’t know but click the link anyway as when or if it is approved the petition will still be valid beyond Bonfire Night as fireworks are often features on other occasions – for example, New Years Eve.
Bonfire Night – John’s Petition Details
Have a look at this folks. Thanks to John for allowing me to post this message in full.
Dear Nextdoor Member,
This is an official governmental petition I am setting up for 2019. I need 5 people to agree with its content in order for the petition to be officially launched. Can you please forward the link to as many friends as possible who are willing to support the petition and do so yourself if you are willing to sign it also. Thank you.

My Petition
Ban the sale of fireworks to the public. Displays for licenced venues only. For the added protection of our children and family pets this is an essential request on behalf of many.
Fireworks are ignited on and off long before the intended celebration dates and for equally long periods after those dates have been and gone.
There you have it. As I say, keep checking the link to check on its status if you wish to sign it.
And to repeat, check the link to my previous post and in particular check out the pet safety video.
John has also posted the information about his online petition in the Next Door Neighbourhood forum. Here’s the link to this post – https://nextdoor.co.uk/news_feed/?post=17592192461845
Here you can also see other people’s feedback to the petition idea.
Best of luck with your petition John.
****Update – 05/11/19****
I’ve just heard from John and he informs me that there is already a similar petition. Apparently there will be news today about any current and pending petitions. More to follow.
…….and here’s the “More To Follow” bit. I’ve been sent this update……
You recently signed the petition “Ban fireworks for general sale to the public.”: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/276425 The Petitions Committee has been looking into fireworks after so many people signed petitions calling for greater restrictions on their sale and use by the general public. The Committee has heard from people and organisations on all sides of the argument about fireworks. The Committee's inquiry has now finished and we thought you'd be interested to know that its report, with recommendations to the Government, will be published on Tuesday 5 November. A link to the report will go live on the Committee's fireworks inquiry webpage from 00.01 hours on Tuesday 5 November: https://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/petitions-committee/inquiries/parliament-2017/fireworks-inquiry-17-19/ A summary of the key points will be published here, from 9am on Tuesday 5 November: https://houseofcommons.shorthandstories.com/petitionsfireworks/index.html Thanks, The Petitions team UK Government and Parliament ------------------------------
