Bogus Callers-Be Aware
Hello folks, I’ve just received this Cheshire Police Scam Alert regarding bogus callers. I’m not sure if issues regarding bogus callers are on the rise recently. Whether they are or not it is still an issue and something we need to be extra vigilant about. And, as always, spread the word wherever you can. Especially if you have elderly neighbours who may well be more vulnerable.
Anyway, here’s the message. And yes, you’ve guessed it, it has been kindly and thoughtfully sent to me by the ever vigilant John from Blacon. Thanks again John. Very much appreciated. Keep ’em coming.
Bogus Callers – Be Aware
Here’s the message from Cheshire Police regarding bogus callers……
“Please be extra vigilant and keep an eye on elderly neighbours. Many legitimate businesses sell products door-to-door; gas, electricity and water companies need to visit to read your meters; and charities will often call seeking donations.
But fraudsters may also knock on your door to part you from your money, or get into your home to steal from you. Don’t feel pressured into handing over money.
Please report to 101 or via our Cheshire Police website if you have any concerns or would like to report suspicious activity. https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/
Dial 999 in an emergency. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kind Regards, PCSO Beth George

As the image above says, most callers to your home are genuine. Meter readers and charity workers for instance. In those particular cases the visitor will immediately show you their ID so that in a way may put your mind at ease.
From my own point of view though, I take my time in checking any ID badges flashed at me at speed.
It takes two seconds to say, “can I see that again please.” Do that and give it a good old study. Being an auditor in a previous working life naturally makes me more vigilant I suppose.
I know in our house, if there’s a knock on the door one of us will say, “are you expecting anyone?” If the answer is “No” we may not answer – particularly if we’re busy.
The last two or three paragraphs above are just my own tuppence worth. Take it or leave it.
