Amy Truesdale In New Year Honours List
As another year ends one of the big events at this time of the year is the New Year Honours List. Every year a variety of people are rewarded with a Government award in recognition of their achievements and service. The focus is on outstanding contributions made by extraordinary people across the UK. It is a privilege to announce that in this year’s honours list, an extraordinary person from here in Chester has been honoured. Our very own Amy Truesdale is in this year’s list. A huge, huge congratulations to Amy. Yet another fantastic achievement from our gold medal winning Paralympian.
Amy Trusedale In New Year Honours List
It is a huge pleasure to announce that Amy Truesdale, 35 and from Hoole, has been awarded an MBE for her amazing achievements, which include Amy claiming her first Paralympic gold medal when she defeated Uzbekistan’s Guljonoy Naimova in the final of the K44 +65 kg category at Paris 2024.
In case you didn’t know, K44 is for Taekwondo fighters with coordination and movement affected in the arms, or the absence of part of the arms.
She admitted receiving the honour has left her full of pride. However, she also insisted it was further reward for reaching the pinnacle of her sport this summer. Amy has proudly announced:
“I’m really humbled by this and I’m really grateful for the honour of being awarded an MBE,” she said. “I’m really happy for it. This is the cherry on top, definitely. This award recognises all of my achievements and is a testament to all of the hard work I have put in, and the dedication to the sport for the last 28 years.”
Without doubt one very worthy, popular award.

More About An MBE Award
So what is an MBE? An MBE, or Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, is an award given to people who have made a significant contribution to the community of country. There’s no denying that Amy definitely ticks that box. An MBE is the third highest ranking award in the Order of the British Empire, after the CBE and OBE, and before knighthood or damehood.
One of the benefits of receiving an MBE is that you can get married in St Paul’s Cathedral, along with your children. There’s a special Chapel in St Paul’s specially reserved for people who have received MBEs or higher awards.
Recipients of an MBE will need to be nominated. To nominate a worthy candidate, an official nomination document is submitted to the Honours and Appointments Secretariat. In addition to that, a minimum of two supporting letters, but ideally five to 15 also need to be provided. Given Amy’s achievements and dedication over many years all required criteria will have been well and truly met.
Congratulations again Amy. It is an award so fully deserved. The people of Chester are so very proud of you. What next for Amy? In terms of awards, a Freedom of the City award perhaps? Over to you Cheshire West and Chester Council.
